so I just wanted to share with everybody that we’ve been having a really rough couple weeks with Malcolm’s migraine headache disorder
He’s been suffering with migraine headaches since the age of three and is under the care of a neurologist , and luckily, for the most part, his headaches are well managed with a medication that is effective for his pain .
Malcolm can go for 2 to 3 months with very minimal headaches maybe once a week
And then he can go 3 to 4 months with headache, headaches almost every day
Unfortunately, a couple weeks ago he went back into a daily migraine cycle
And it’s been really tough
Malcolm severe level three autism is already hard enough to deal with and support him with, but when you add the pain of a migraine headache as well, a difficult day turns into an unmanageable one very quickly .
outings that normally have been quite manageable over the summer are suddenly extremely difficult
And the amount of medication he has been needing in order to manage is more than we would like him to be taking .
unfortunately after a while, he starts to develop a little bit of a tolerance to the medication and it begins not to work as effectively
i’m sharing this because this is the day-to-day reality of a special needs parent
This is why I feel so isolated
This is why my son’s not in a regular in person school this year
How are other parents managing share what works for you in the comments and anyone who suffers with migraines and has any suggestion, suggestions idea, ideas or support I would love to hear from you
