World First Aid Day 🩺 Today is a reminder of how important it is to know what to do when an emergency happens.

Even basic first aid skills can make a real difference while help is on the way.

Be prepared by learning first aid, keeping emergency supplies accessible, and having trained medical professionals on-site for larger events.

Programs worth researching include:
✔ Experience Ontario
✔ Ontario Trillium Foundation grants

Funding programs may support eligible expenses related to event delivery, tourism, programming, accessibility and community impact.

Planning an Event in Rural Ontario?

Rural events can bring unique medical and emergency-response challenges that should be considered early in the planning process.

Organizers should account for:
✔ Longer ambulance response times
✔ Distance from the nearest hospital
✔ Limited or congested access roads
✔ Poor or unreliable cell service
✔ Large or difficult-to-navigate event sites
✔ Limited shelter during severe weather

Having professional medical personnel on-site means trained care is available while additional emergency services are on the way.

Contact canaPHEM to discuss medical coverage for your rural Ontario event.

❌ Myth: “We have volunteers with first aid training, so we don’t need professional medical coverage.”

✅ Fact: First aid-trained volunteers can be a valuable part of an event team, but they may not replace dedicated medical professionals.

Professional event medics bring focused training, medical equipment, incident documentation and the ability to assess, treat and escalate medical concerns when needed.

The right level of coverage depends on factors such as:
✔ Event size and duration
✔ Type of activities
✔ Age of participants
✔ Alcohol service
✔ Location and ambulance access
✔ Potential risks and previous incidents

Volunteers support your event. Professional medical coverage helps strengthen your emergency response plan.

Contact canaPHEM to discuss the right level of coverage for your Ontario event.
