For many people living with MS, research can feel distant or difficult to understand. But for Helena Jidborg Alexander of Multiple Sclerosis Trust and George Pepper of Shift.ms, getting involved in clinical trials and patient involvement projects became a source of hope, purpose, and connection.

In our latest ECTRIMS Community Voices article, they share:

๐Ÿ”น What motivated them to join research studies

๐Ÿ”น What the clinical trial experience was actually like

๐Ÿ”น How patient voices are changing MS research

๐Ÿ”น Why diversity and inclusion in research matter

How involvement can help people feel empowered and hopeful about the future.

๐ŸŽง New Podcast Episode: The 2024 McDonald Criteria โ€” Will They Reduce MS Misdiagnosis?

The revised 2024 McDonald Criteria represent one of the most important updates in multiple sclerosis diagnosis in recent years โ€” but will they improve diagnostic accuracy in real-world clinical practice?

In this ECTRIMS Podcast episode, recorded in collaboration with the Multiple Sclerosis Journals โ€œControversies in MSโ€ series, Prof. Anneke van der Walt speaks with Prof. Andy Solomon from University of Vermont and Prof. Enrique Gomez Figueroa from Hospital Civil de Guadalajara about the promises and challenges of the revised criteria.

"Progression independent of disease activity is the most important problem that we need to solve," said Professor Ludwig Kappos at ECTRIMS 2025.

"We observed that the infusion of autologous bone marrow was associated with reduced rate in change of the global evoked potential at 12 months," adds Dr. Claire Rice of the University of Bristol.

Is curing multiple sclerosis possible and how is a "cure" defined? CURE-MS is a study aimed at answering these questions and reaching consensus. CURE-MS is a modified Delphi panel study using a multistakeholder approach, which includes MS neurologists, patients, patient advocates and industry representatives.

CURE-MS wants to hear from you! ๐Ÿ‘‰https://redcap.uza.be/studies/surveys/?s=KD4LJTKYN4TKTAHH

โฐ The survey takes no more than 15 minutes. The pre-Delphi round is open until 31 May 2026.

The steering committee of CURE-MS is comprised of:

โ€ข Antonia Lefter, University of Antwerp, Belgium, University of Oxford, UK
โ€ข Georgina Arrambide, CEMCAT (Centre d'Esclerosi Mรบltiple de Catalunya), Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron, Spain

๐ŸŽง New Podcast Episode: EBV and Multiple Sclerosis โ€“ Could Infection Hold the Key to MS?

The link between Epsteinโ€“Barr virus (EBV) and multiple sclerosis has rapidly become one of the most important areas of investigation in MS research.

In this new ECTRIMS Podcast episode, Prof. Gavin Giovannoni from Queen Mary University of London and Prof. Tomas Olsson from Karolinska Institutet join Brett Drummond to explore the latest evidence connecting EBV infection to MS development, progression, and future therapeutic strategies.

The discussion covers:
๐Ÿ”น Molecular mimicry and autoimmune activation
๐Ÿ”น EBV persistence and chronic CNS inflammation
๐Ÿ”น Antiviral therapies and CAR-T approaches
๐Ÿ”น The future of EBV-targeted vaccines
๐Ÿ”น Potentially lowering MS risk by preventing infectious mononucleosis

๐ŸŒ Your experience matters.

Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF) has launched a World MS Day poster maker that lets you create your own personal diagnosis poster. You can also choose to anonymously share your experience to help build a global picture of what it means to be diagnosed with MS.

Every story is different - and yours could help improve understanding of MS diagnosis experiences worldwide, including the barriers people face across different countries.

We are proud to support this initiative. Create your poster today and be part of the global MS community.
