Today is a pause between endings and beginnings.

Yesterday we completed the second module of the Esalen® Massage Certification Training here in Jiaxing, China. Tomorrow I begin teaching a two-day Bodywork Introduction.

Today, there is time to slow down.

Tea. Matcha. Notes spread across the table. Revisiting the manual. Looking out over the lake and reflecting on the week that has just passed.

There is something bittersweet about these moments. The completion of a module always carries a sense of ending. Relationships have deepened. Trust has grown. Students have stretched beyond what felt familiar. And then suddenly, it is complete.

At the same time, there is the excitement of what is about to begin. A new group. New questions. New discoveries. A fresh field of possibility.

I find myself feeling deeply grateful to Jingni for inviting me to come here. What began with a conversation has become an experience that I will carry with me for a long time. It has felt very special to share this work so far from home and to witness how deeply the principles of Esalen® Massage resonate across cultures.

Today also happens to be my son’s birthday. Being able to speak with him from the other side of the world is the highlight of my day.

For now, I am enjoying this in-between space.

Traveling after major abdominal surgery and stoma reversal still comes with uncertainty for me.

Every new place does.

Where is the next bathroom?
How far am I from my place?
What if my body suddenly says no?

What helps me travel is not pressure or pushing through.

It is creating enough safety for my nervous system.

A calm apartment.
No expectations.
No strict plans.
Food that feels safe.
A neighborhood where I can walk slowly and know I can always return quickly.

And strangely, the less pressure I put on myself, the more becomes possible.

Today I wandered through Shanghai, sat in the park, had dinner outside, explored little streets.

Not because I forced myself to.

But because my body finally felt safe enough.

I think sometimes freedom does not begin when uncertainty disappears.

It begins when we learn how to meet it.

I notice how my attention begins to gather again.

After the past weeks, with a lot of movement and decisions, something in me is settling.

And with that, my focus turns more and more towards the spaces I will be holding next.

London is coming up next weekend.

And further ahead, Portugal in October.

I can already feel how my attention starts to move towards the group that will gather there.

Not as a plan.
More like a direction.

If you have been feeling a pull towards this work,
this might be a good moment to listen a little closer.

Esalen® Massage is more than a technique.
It comes from a place.

A place where touch, presence and awareness meet.

This is the lineage I’m part of
and what I share in my workshops and trainings.

.
The body is not a collection of parts.
It’s a whole.

Long, flowing strokes
create continuity, connection,
and a sense of being held.

This is something we practice step by step
in the Intro workshops
and deepen in the trainings.

What is Esalen® Massage?

Not something you perform.
Something you listen into.

A practice of presence,
awareness,
and connection.

If you’d like to experience this,
you can find upcoming workshops and trainings in my bio.

You don’t need to know how to massage
to begin.

This is not about technique.
It’s about presence, connection,
and learning to listen through your hands.

In this 2-day introduction, you’ll experience the quality of touch firsthand through giving and receiving.

We will slow down together and come into contact with ourselves and the group.

There’s a moment many people reach
when working with touch

where something starts to feel… incomplete

Not because you don’t know enough
but because something deeper is asking for attention

For me, this is where Esalen® Massage begins

It’s not only about what you do
but how you are there
how you listen
how you meet another body

This is the space we explore in the training
