Today is a pause between endings and beginnings.
Yesterday we completed the second module of the Esalen® Massage Certification Training here in Jiaxing, China. Tomorrow I begin teaching a two-day Bodywork Introduction.
Today, there is time to slow down.
Tea. Matcha. Notes spread across the table. Revisiting the manual. Looking out over the lake and reflecting on the week that has just passed.
There is something bittersweet about these moments. The completion of a module always carries a sense of ending. Relationships have deepened. Trust has grown. Students have stretched beyond what felt familiar. And then suddenly, it is complete.
At the same time, there is the excitement of what is about to begin. A new group. New questions. New discoveries. A fresh field of possibility.
I find myself feeling deeply grateful to Jingni for inviting me to come here. What began with a conversation has become an experience that I will carry with me for a long time. It has felt very special to share this work so far from home and to witness how deeply the principles of Esalen® Massage resonate across cultures.
Today also happens to be my son’s birthday. Being able to speak with him from the other side of the world is the highlight of my day.
For now, I am enjoying this in-between space.
