Particle Metrix was founded in 2004 by the chemist Margret Böck and physicist Dr. Hanno Wachernig in Meerbusch near Dusseldorf. During the first two years, the company focused on counseling work for the particle characterization business. In 2006, Particle Metrix started developing its own nanoparticle
analyzers. Today, Particle Metrix's know-how comprises the development, production and sale of particle analysis devices using nanoparticle tracking technology. The company headquarter is nowadays located in Inning am Ammersee at the gates of Munich, and in addition to the administration and development department, also includes production as well as the service and support center. An experienced team of electrical engineers, chemists, biologists and physicists is available to the
customer to competently answer all possible questions. In addition to the large area of technical nanoparticles (e.g. colloidal and macromolecular solutions, emulsions, dispersions or nanobubbles), bio-medical and clinical applications play a central role for Particle Metrix. The company has specialized in the characterization of extracellular vesicles, exosomes, liposomes and viruses, using both scatter and fluorescence-based methods. The focus of
interest is on determining the size and concentration as well as measuring zeta potential of particles in the nanometer scale

Publication Highlight | Nanoparticles for Photodynamic Cancer Therapy

A recent study published in Polymers MDPI explores the use of PEG-PLGA nanoparticles loaded with a novel photosensitizer (BrCY7) for photodynamic therapy (PDT) in pancreatic cancer cells.

We're happy to see our ZetaView® technology contributing to this research! The ZetaView® was used to characterize the nanoparticles, providing insights into their size distribution and zeta potential, key parameters for evaluating nanoparticle formulations.

Great to see being used in another interesting field of nanoparticle research!

In a recent study published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences MDPI, researchers explored a sustainable approach to producing silver nanoparticles ( ) using rooibos kombucha.

NTA was among the methods used to characterize the nanoparticles before evaluating their antibacterial and antibiofilm activity.
It’s always exciting to see how Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis contributes to research across such a wide range of applications.

From September 14-16, 2026, we’ll be joining the MSS Biotechevents 2026 - next-gen bio Manufacturing & delivery Science Symposium in Bled, Slovenia.

MSS2026 brings together experts from academia and industry to exchange insights on biomanufacturing, advanced analytics, gene therapies, vaccines, LNPs, and viral vectors.

We are at the British Society for Nanomedicine Annual Meeting at UCL East!

Together with our UK & Ireland distributor Analytik, we are showcasing Particle Metrix technology as part of a workflow for nanoparticle and extracellular vesicle research - complemented by additional technologies to support researchers throughout their workflow.

EV samples are highly heterogeneous - and that makes reliable characterization challenging.

Scatter measurements alone are often not sufficient to distinguish extracellular vesicles from other particles in a sample. But membrane dyes come with their own limitations: other components, such as lipoproteins, can also be stained and potentially mistaken for EVs.

This is where specific antibody-based detection can make a real difference. With our F-NTA Detection Kit, fluorescently labeled antibodies enable the specific detection and characterization of EV subpopulations - adding another layer of specificity to NTA measurements.
