🤝We would like to say a huge thank you to Medicareplus for visiting our office today to deliver an informative workshop for our care workers.

🧑‍⚕️The session covered the different stages of moisture-associated skin damage, how to identify each stage, and which creams and barrier films should be used appropriately. It also explained the key differences between moisture damage and pressure damage, helping to build our team's knowledge and confidence in providing the best possible care.

💌Each care worker was also given a handy reference card to attach to their lanyard, providing quick and easy guidance while on the job.

💙Thank you once again to Medicareplus for such an interesting, engaging, and informative workshop. We really appreciate your support and expertise!

During this heatwave, it is important to take extra precautions to help the people you support stay safe, cool, and hydrated.

💧 Encourage regular hydration
Offer drinks frequently throughout the day, even if the person does not feel thirsty. Water, diluted squash, milk are good options.
🔍 Monitor for signs of dehydration
Look out for symptoms such as dry mouth, dizziness, confusion, headaches, dark urine, or reduced urine output.
🌬️ Keep living areas cool
Close curtains, blinds, and windows during the hottest parts of the day. Open windows when temperatures are cooler, particularly in the evening and overnight where it is safe to do so.
👕 Support appropriate clothing choices
Encourage lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and ensure hats or sun protection are used if going outdoors.
🌡️ Avoid the midday heat
Where possible, limit outdoor activities between 11am and 3pm when temperatures are at their highest.
🍦 Offer cooling measures
Provide cool drinks, cool flannels, fans, or cool showers and baths where appropriate and in line with individual care plans.
🔎 Watch for heat-related illness
Be alert for signs of heat exhaustion, including excessive sweating, weakness, nausea, dizziness, or confusion. Seek medical advice if symptoms worsen or do not improve.
🤝 Check on vulnerable individuals more frequently
Older people, particularly those living alone or with long-term health conditions, may be at greater risk during periods of extreme heat.

💪Your vigilance can make a significant difference in keeping those you support safe and comfortable during hot weather.

What can be achieved when a care provider and local authority builds flexibility into a partnership from day one?

Since 2023, Agincare and Southwark Council have worked together to expand nursing capacity, strengthen hospital discharge pathways, support reablement services and invest in workforce wellbeing across five care and nursing homes.

From launching the Avon Unit to supporting nursing, and discharge to assess pathways, to helping residents regain independence and return home safely, the partnership continues to evolve in response to local need.

Our latest article explores the impact of collaborative working and how flexible service delivery is helping improve outcomes for residents while reducing pressure on the wider health and care system.

Making decisions about care is rarely straightforward.

Whether it’s after a hospital stay, a fall or simply noticing that daily life is becoming more difficult, families are often faced with important decisions at a time of stress and uncertainty. Too often these decisions need to be made quickly, without having the time to fully understand what level of support is needed.

That’s why we’ve created Smart Start.

Smart Start is a flexible 2-4 week home care service designed to give individuals and families the time, space and professional support needed to make informed decisions about future care. During this period, a dedicated care worker provides personalised support at home, helping with daily routines, personal care, companionship and practical assistance while gaining a real understanding of day-to-day needs.

Whether you’re exploring care at home, considering a move into a care home, or simply unsure of the next right step, Smart Start allows you to experience care without pressure or long-term commitment.

No pressure. No commitment. Just time, support and clarity.

Making decisions about care for a loved one is rarely easy.

Whether it's following a hospital stay, a change in health, or growing concerns about managing at home, families are often asked to make important decisions at a time of uncertainty and emotional pressure.

That's why we're proud to introduce Smart Start. A new short-term care service designed to give individuals and families the time, support and reassurance they need to make informed decisions about future care.

By providing personalised support at home, Smart Start creates the space to explore options, understand care needs more clearly and move forward with confidence, without feeling rushed into long-term decisions.

👉 Read more about how Smart Start is helping families navigate care decisions with greater clarity and peace of mind:

At Agincare, we understand that deciding on care for a loved one is rarely straightforward. It often comes at a time of uncertainty, such as after a hospital stay, following a change in mobility or health, or when families begin to realise that day-to-day support is becoming harder to manage.…
