On Northern Ireland Social Care Council's Care to chat podcast, Dr Wendy Austin spoke to one of our Support Worker's Stevie Gibson on what it's like working with children and young people within the service.

โ€œI didnโ€™t think I would make a difference in these kidsโ€™ lives to be quite honest when I started this a couple of years ago, but when you see those kids bouncing out the front door to school, taking the door of the hinges to get out for those two hours โ€“ it has been life changing for me โ€“ to see just how much an impact you can make for those kids.โ€

Our wonder week ๐Ÿซถ

It's safe to say our services have been busy over the past while โœจ... from our Autism Outreach Funday and big day out at Airtastic to meeting some country music legends in our Cookstown Supported Living Service!

12 families attended our Autism Outreach Funday last week, enjoying a bouncy castle, inflatable assault course and even a nerf shootout! A gaming bus came along with 10 consoles inside and 2 VR racing simulators (that were a big hit) ๐ŸŽฎ. There were plenty of snacks and drinks due to the nice weather, everyone got a McDonalds and went home with a party bag ๐Ÿฅณ! It was also a big hit with the parents who spent the entire time chatting away to each other in the sunโ˜€๏ธ.

Summer brings more opportunities to enjoy different activities, including a visit to Airtastic Entertainment Centres NI for Theo, Edward and Teodoir, who are supported by our Fermanagh Autism Outreach Service. After plenty of bouncing and swinging, it was time to finish the day with some food and recharge after all that fun!

To top of our wonder week, we had Kevin from Cookstown at the Revvv It Up Festival. Kevin, from our Cookstown Supported Living Service, had an unforgettable day soaking up the atmosphere at the festival in Dungannon. A big country music fan, Kevin was thrilled to see some of his favourite stars take to the stage, including Nathan Carter, Lisa McHugh and Derek Ryan Music. But the real highlight โ€” the moment that made the day extra special โ€” was meeting rising Irish country music star Cliona Hagan. What a fantastic experience and a memory Kevin will treasure!

Cookstown Supported Living Service Goes Green! โ™ป๏ธ๐ŸŒ

People we support at our Cookstown Supported Living Service completed the Caring for Our World training, learning simple and practical ways to protect the environment, including reducing waste, recycling and saving energy ๐ŸŒฑ. This initiative is all about empowering people we support to take meaningful climate action.

Caring for Our World is Northern Irelandโ€™s first climate action training resource developed specifically for people with a learning disability. Co-designed by Positive Futures, Live Here Love Here and people we support, the programme helps participants understand climate change and explore how everyday actions can make a positive difference.

Weโ€™re proud of everyone who took part and their commitment to creating a more sustainable future for all of us ๐ŸŒŽ.

30 trees for 30 years ๐ŸŒณ

Monday marked the last of our tree planting events with the National Trust NI at Crom Estate in Fermanagh. Staff and people we support gathered to plant trees as part of the National Trust's "Roots to Recovery" project and work towards our own Positive Green Strategy. We even had a special visit from the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Cllr Debbie Coyle ๐Ÿซถ

Gregor and Stevie taught us some digging tips and we all got stuck in. There was such a lovely atmosphere as we planted on one of the hottest days of the year so far โ˜€๏ธ. And although this was the last of our tree planting events, it's a bye for now as we look forward to future projects..watch this space ๐Ÿ‘€!
