Last weekend I escaped to Ibiza for a little rest, reflection, and sunshine.

Sometimes we think self-care has to be complicated, but often it’s the simple things that make the biggest difference. Walking by the sea, slowing down, taking a breath, and giving your mind a chance to reset.

Our brains aren’t designed to be “on” all the time.
When we create space to step away from our usual routines, we often return feeling clearer, calmer, and more able to cope with life’s challenges.

Whether it’s a weekend away, a walk in nature, or simply taking ten minutes for yourself today, remember that looking after your wellbeing is not a luxury, it’s an investment in your future self.

Fear of flying can feel completely overwhelming.

For some people, the anxiety starts weeks before the trip.
For others, it begins the moment they step onto the plane.

Racing heart.
Panic.
Feeling trapped.
Imagining worst-case scenarios.
Wanting to avoid holidays, work trips, or even important life experiences altogether.

The fear is very real, even when logically you know flying is safe.

That’s because the nervous system responds emotionally before the rational brain has a chance to step in.

Hypnotherapy can help calm the fear response, reduce anticipatory anxiety, and help the brain begin to associate flying with safety rather than danger.

Imagine being able to:
✈️ book a holiday without dread
✈️ sit on a plane feeling calmer
✈️ enjoy the journey instead of enduring it
✈️ stop fear limiting your life experiences

You do not have to keep avoiding the places and people you want to experience.

A little about me…

I’m Jo, a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist, Psychotherapist, and EMDR practitioner. I work with both adults and children who want to make positive changes in their lives.

Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, stress, confidence issues, low mood, fears, or simply feeling stuck, my role is to help you understand how your brain works and support you in moving towards the future you want.

I believe that progress doesn’t have to be huge to be meaningful.

Sometimes the smallest steps create the biggest changes over time.

Watching clients rediscover their confidence, resilience, and sense of calm is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

If you’ve been thinking about reaching out for support, I’d be happy to have a chat.

This week, I had the privilege of speaking to a group of newly qualifying therapists as they prepare to begin their own journeys supporting clients.

It reminded me just how much courage it takes to step into a helping profession. Behind every qualification is someone who genuinely wants to make a difference in the lives of others.

During the talk, we discussed the realities of working with clients, the importance of building trust, and how even the smallest positive changes can have a profound impact on someone’s wellbeing.

One of the things I love most about being a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist is seeing people discover strengths they didn’t realise they had. Whether it’s overcoming anxiety, building confidence, managing stress, or simply finding hope again, change is always possible.

It was wonderful to share my experiences and hopefully offer some reassurance and encouragement to those taking their first steps into practice.

To all the newly qualified therapists: trust your training, stay curious, and never underestimate the difference you can make.

Helping adults and children create positive change.

People sometimes ask me how I do the work I do.

How I hold space for anxiety, trauma, overwhelm, grief, stress and emotional exhaustion every day.

And the truth is, I’ve learned that supporting others starts with supporting my own nervous system too.

Not perfectly.Not rigidly.But consistently.

For me, that looks like movement and recovery in simple, grounding ways:
Walking.
Exercise.
Time in nature.
Relaxation sessions.
Saunas & Cold baths.
Moments of stillness.

These aren’t luxuries for me anymore. They’re part of how I stay regulated, present and emotionally available for both my clients and my family.

When we spend our days caring for others, listening deeply, or holding responsibility, our nervous systems need moments of safety and restoration too.

I think there’s a real shift that happens when we stop waiting until burnout to care for ourselves.

Small daily practices matter.
Fresh air matters.
Rest matters.
Slowing down matters.

You don’t have to earn rest by becoming completely exhausted first.

Many people come to therapy believing they need to “get rid” of anxiety.

But anxiety isn’t the enemy.

Anxiety is simply your brain trying to protect you.

The challenge comes when that protective system becomes overactive, making everyday situations feel overwhelming, exhausting, or difficult to manage.

The good news is that the brain is capable of change.

By understanding how the brain works and using techniques such as Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, it is possible to strengthen calm thinking, build confidence, and regain a sense of control.

You don’t have to stay stuck in survival mode.

Performance anxiety is not a lack of talent.

Often, it’s a nervous system trying to protect you.

As both a hypnotherapist and professional musician myself, I understand how vulnerable performing can feel, no matter your level of experience.

Musicians can spend hours practising, rehearsing, and perfecting their performance, yet the mind can still go into overdrive before stepping on stage.

Racing thoughts.
Shaking hands.
Dry mouth.
Fear of making mistakes.
Overthinking every note.

The brain begins to perceive performance as a threat rather than something enjoyable.

Hypnotherapy can help calm the nervous system, reduce anxiety, improve focus, and build confidence so performers can access the skills they already have.

Because confidence in performance is not about being fearless.
It’s about feeling calm enough to trust yourself.

Whether you are a professional musician, student, performer, singer, or preparing for auditions and exams, support is available.

Just a few moments of the sea. 🌊

The sound of waves, the rhythm of the water, the fresh air, the open space!

Nature has a powerful effect on the nervous system.

When we slow down enough to pause and really take it in, the brain often begins to quieten too.

Breathing slows.
Muscles soften.
Thoughts become less loud.

Many of us are carrying far more stress and stimulation than we realise.

Sometimes a calm moment is not wasted time.
It’s exactly what the mind and body need.

I hope this little video brings a few moments of calm to your day too.

Do you ever find yourself lying awake at night, exhausted but unable to switch off?

Many people assume they have a sleep problem, when in reality they have a busy brain problem.

When our minds are constantly focused on worries, responsibilities, and “what ifs”, the brain stays on alert. This makes it difficult to relax enough for restful sleep.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps calm the nervous system, reduce overthinking, and encourage the brain to spend more time in a relaxed, resourceful state.

Imagine going to bed feeling calmer, waking up refreshed, and having more energy for the things that matter most.

What small step could you take this evening to help your mind slow down?

Dogs really are wonderful for the nervous system. 🐾

Watching Louis on the beach last week reminded me how naturally dogs live in the moment.

No overthinking.
No rushing.
No worrying about tomorrow.

Just excitement, curiosity, movement, fresh air, and pure joy.

Being around dogs can help lower stress hormones, encourage us to walk more, breathe more deeply, laugh more, and feel more connected.

There’s also something incredibly calming about simply watching them explore the world so freely.

Louis absolutely loved the beach, and honestly, seeing his happiness probably helped my nervous system too. 🌊

Sometimes healing isn’t always complicated.
Sometimes it’s fresh air, waves, muddy paws, and slowing down enough to enjoy the moment.
