🦵 Compartment Syndrome is a serious medical condition that occurs when pressure builds up within a group of muscles, reducing blood flow and potentially causing permanent damage to muscles and nerves if not treated promptly. It most commonly develops after a traumatic injury or fracture.

💊 Treatment may include:
✔️ Immediate removal of any tight bandages, casts, or dressings where appropriate
✔️ Keeping the affected limb at heart level (rather than elevated)
✔️ Pain management and close monitoring
✔️ Emergency surgery (fasciotomy) to relieve pressure in acute cases
✔️ Physiotherapy and rehabilitation during recovery

Acute compartment syndrome is a medical emergency. Early recognition and rapid treatment are essential to prevent permanent tissue damage and preserve limb function.

🦴 What is Compartment Syndrome? 🦴

Compartment Syndrome is a serious condition that occurs when pressure builds up within a group of muscles, known as a compartment. This increased pressure reduces blood flow, preventing oxygen and nutrients from reaching muscles and nerves. It is a medical emergency that often develops after a severe injury, fracture, or crush injury and requires urgent treatment to prevent permanent damage.

⚠️ Signs & Symptoms may include:
• Severe pain that is out of proportion to the injury
• Pain that worsens when the affected muscle is stretched
• Swelling or tightness in the affected limb
• Tingling or a "pins and needles" sensation
• Numbness or weakness
• Pale, cool skin over the affected area (in severe cases)
• Reduced or absent movement of the affected limb

Early recognition is crucial. If compartment syndrome is suspected, seek emergency medical attention immediately. Prompt treatment, often involving emergency surgery (fasciotomy), can help prevent permanent muscle and nerve damage.

💙 Knowing the signs of compartment syndrome could help save a limb and prevent lifelong complications.
