It's another busy day here at Community Reds HQ as we prepare for tomorrow night's game and work behind the scenes on some exciting new initiatives in the pipeline!

As we continue our journey towards achieving charitable status, we're looking at ways to strengthen the role and impact of our various projects, creating opportunities, breaking down barriers and finding solutions that Enable & Empower Change across our local and wider community.

..🔴 SPECIAL OLYMPICS BOCCIA IS COMING TO NEATH PORT TALBOT! 🔴

🏆 Just over a week to go!

We’re excited to be launching our new Special Olympics Boccia sessions in Neath Port Talbot, delivered in partnership with BFL Community Reds and Port Talbot Pirates Cricket Club.

Alongside our Monday evening cricket sessions, this exciting new opportunity will open the door to more people with learning disabilities, their siblings, parents and carers to come together, get active, make friends and enjoy the benefits of sport in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

⚽ More than just weekly sports sessions!

As we establish our new Special Olympics group, members will have opportunities to represent their communities and take part in local, regional and national competitions and tournaments.

They will also be invited to participate in our growing Community Reds Inclusion Leagues, featuring:

🔴 Boccia
🔴 Short Mat Bowls
🔴 New Age Kurling

These leagues will bring together our community groups and partners through the Community Reds Outreach Programme, creating opportunities for participation, friendship, teamwork and healthy competition.

📅 Wednesday evenings – plenty of opportunities to get involved!

Our programme will initially offer:
🎯 Boccia
🎳 New Age Kurling
🏆 Short Mat Bowls

And that’s just the beginning! Working with are Community Partners and Clubs Further activities, including Touch Rugby and Football, Athletics will be introduced shortly.

All of this forms part of our commitment to Create, Enable, Empower Change, breaking down barriers and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate, develop new skills and reach their potential.

. 🔴 COMMUNITY REDS UPDATE – A WEEK OF OPPORTUNITIES, INCLUSION AND WALKING FOOTBALL! ⚽❤️

It’s amazing to see the different and varied roles we play as volunteers with The Community Reds!

Yesterday, it was fantastic to support and be part of the Charitable Tri-Nations International Walking Football event at Cwrt Herbert. 🇨🇾⚽

The event brought together teams from the Republic of Ireland, England and our very own Cymru Dragons for a fantastic afternoon of Walking Football, friendship and international sporting spirit. Even better, the event helped raise funds for Prostate Cancer Wales and The Boot Room.

A huge well done to everyone who took part and to all those who helped make the event such a success. 👏

⚽ A NEW WEEK, A NEW CHAPTER!

Following a disappointing weekend of results for both Briton Ferry Llansawel AFC senior sides, with defeats for the men’s and women’s teams, it’s time to look forward to another week of fun, activity and opportunities here at The Community Reds.

Although our regular Outreach Programme may be taking a short break for half-term, there’s still plenty to keep us busy over the next few days!

We’ll be following up on the many positive leads and connections made at World Stroke Awareness Day, putting the finishing touches to some exciting upcoming training opportunities, and exploring new ways to create opportunities for people within our community.

Alongside all this, we have several important meetings lined up regarding the future of Walking Football in Wales and preparations for next year’s World Masters Walking Football Cup, which will be held at Stratford Town FC in beautiful Shakespeare Country. 🌍⚽

🔴 A BUSY WEEKEND FOR THE REDS! 🔴

A disappointing day on the road for Andy and the boys, going down 3-1 to Caernarfon, with Luke Bowen getting Ferry’s goal.

👏 Well done to everyone who made the long journey up north to get behind the boys. It was fantastic to hear the noise you generated and see the passion you continue to show in supporting the club. Your support never goes unnoticed!

Yesterday, it was great to be involved in World Stroke Awareness Day down at Aberavon, alongside Neath Port Talbot Stroke Club.

It was a real pleasure to speak to so many people and meet representatives from other organisations, sharing information about BFL Community Reds, our outreach work and the opportunities we can provide within our local communities.

Events like yesterday, alongside the many initiatives delivered through our Outreach Programme, are what make volunteering for the Community Reds so rewarding. Every day brings something different, with new people to meet, new connections to make and opportunities to help others develop, participate and thrive.

⚽ TOMORROW – WALKING FOOTBALL INTERNATIONAL!

We will be supporting the Charity International Walking Football Event at Cwrt Herbert, where Cymru Dragons will play host to England and the Republic of Ireland.

It promises to be a fantastic occasion, celebrating the game we all love, bringing people together and demonstrating that football really is a game for everyone.

🔴 BRITON FERRY LLANSAWEL WOMEN – HOME ACTION!

Tomorrow afternoon, our women's team take on high-flying Cardiff Women at the Renewable Centre Stadium, with a 2pm kick-off.

Following last week's excellent away victory against Swansea City Women, the girls will be looking to build on that performance and take another positive result into the weekend.

Today, we’re proud to have a stand at World Stroke Awareness Day, organised by Neath Port Talbot Stroke Club.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet people, build new connections and raise awareness of BFL Community Reds, the club and the many opportunities and initiatives we provide across our local community.

Our aim remains simple: Creating, Enabling, Empowering Change – ensuring nobody is left sitting on the bench.

🏅 EXCITING NEWS – SPECIAL OLYMPICS NEATH PORT TALBOT

You may have seen that we’ll shortly be launching our Special Olympics Neath Port Talbot Group and programme.

This exciting new initiative will offer weekly, fully inclusive Special Olympics sports sessions, creating opportunities for people to get active, develop their skills, build confidence and enjoy being part of a team.

Alongside our weekly sessions, we’ll be looking to develop opportunities for competition and establish a structure that enables participants to progress and reach their potential.

Sunday sees Briton Ferry Llansawel Women back in action at the Renewable Centre Stadium as they welcome Cardiff City Women, with a 2pm kick-off.

Following last week’s fantastic result against Swansea City, the women will be looking to build on that performance, continue their climb up the table and push for a place in the top four.

Remembering Aberfan – Creating Opportunities for All ❤️

Sixty years ago today, children went to school in Aberfan, South Wales, some never to return home. At 9.15am, tragedy struck when the Aberfan disaster claimed the lives of 116 children and 28 adults.

Today, we pause for a moment of quiet reflection to remember all those who lost their lives, the families and community forever affected, and all those who will never be forgotten. ❤️

Moving forward, today brings something different for our Community Reds volunteer team.

We are busy preparing for World Stroke Awareness Day this Friday in Aberavon, where we have been invited by one of our valued Community Reds Outreach Partners, Neath Port Talbot Stroke Club, to have a stand at the event.

This morning, our volunteers will be updating our information and display boards, preparing promotional materials and putting together some goodies to share with visitors.

Attending events like this is an important opportunity for us to meet people, build relationships, raise awareness and promote the work and role of the Community Reds within our local and wider community.

As we continue to grow and sustain our various initiatives, our focus remains on creating opportunities, encouraging participation and making a positive difference in people's lives.

As we await the Charity Commission's decision on our application to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), we continue to plan, develop and implement new activities and opportunities for all.

Alongside our community outreach sessions, we also support the matchday experience at Briton Ferry Llansawel AFC.

As we look to develop and enhance our matchday initiatives, we are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our Games Maker team.

🔴 Player escorts
🔴 Half-time entertainment and activities

We also want to hear from local schools, community groups and teams interested in becoming flag bearers and player escorts at men's and women's matches at the Renewable Centre Stadium.

🌍 LOOKING AHEAD TO 2027 – THE WORLD MASTERS!

Looking further ahead, May 2027 will see the second World Masters Walking Football event take place at Stratford Town in England, in the home town of William Shakespeare.

Following the fantastic success of the World Masters event hosted here in August, next year's tournament promises to be even bigger and better!

It's another exciting opportunity to showcase this fantastic inclusive sport, bring people together from across the world and continue growing the game for players of all ages and abilities.

🔴 ANOTHER GREAT WEEKEND FOR THE REDS! 🔴

What a fantastic result for our Ferry Llansawel AFC Women’s team yesterday, recording a fine 3-0 away victory against Swansea City Ladies at the Dot Com Stadium! ⚽👏

Combined with Friday night’s cup success for Andy and the boys, it’s been a brilliant weekend for all our Red Brigade supporters. ❤️🖤

Away from the football, it’s another busy week ahead for the Community Reds. Over the next few days, our attention will turn to updating our display boards and promotional materials in preparation for attending World Stroke Awareness Day in Port Talbot on Friday.

🔴⚽ INTO THE HAT WE GO!! 🔴⚽

What a busy and exciting night down at the Renewable Centre Stadium last night! A massive well done to Andy and the boys, as a fantastic 5-0 victory sees Briton Ferry Llansawel AFC safely into the next round of the FAW Cup! 🔴👏

On the first crisp, clear evening of the month, the Ferry Boys delivered in style in front of a buoyant and passionate crowd, boosted by fantastic support from our visitors, Afan United.

Led by hat-trick hero and Man of the Match Luke Bowen, the Ferry Boys booked their place in the Third Round in impressive fashion! ⚽⚽⚽

👏 A huge well done to both sets of supporters for creating such a fantastic atmosphere. It was also a special night for our Community Reds Games Makers, who made their debut and helped contribute to the matchday experience. Thank you to everyone involved!

A special mention, too, to the Afan United mascots, who proudly led the teams out onto the pitch and joined in the half-time entertainment. We hope you enjoyed your evening!

Matches between these two sides are always exciting and closely contested affairs, and tomorrow's encounter promises to be another one to savour!

Both teams will be looking to bounce back after defeats in their last outings, with Swansea going down to Wrexham and our Ferry Women losing to current league leaders The New Saints.

🔴 WHAT'S NOT TO GET EXCITED ABOUT? 🔴

As the excitement builds for this Friday night’s action at the Renewable Centre Stadium, plans are already being put in place for what could be the biggest attendance of the season!

We welcome Afan United, who will be looking to cause a cup upset against their Novira Cymru Premiership opponents. Add in the excitement of a cup tie, a local derby, football under the lights and live television coverage, and what’s not to get excited about? ⚽🔥

But matchday is about more than just the action on the pitch. It’s also about the people, the community and the opportunities that bring us all together.

❤️ This is one of the reasons I got involved volunteering with the Community Reds and its many initiatives.

From delivering our Community Outreach sessions to supporting our matchday activities, there is always something to get involved in, new people to meet and opportunities to make a difference.

.🔴 COMMUNITY REDS – OUTREACH, INCLUSION & COMMUNITY SPIRIT! 🔴

It's been another busy few days for our Community Reds Outreach Volunteer, delivering activities with two of our valued Community Reds Partners! ❤️

This week, we visited Age Connect Neath Port Talbot in Margam and Me Myself & I in Seven Sisters, bringing people together through physical activity, friendly competition and, most importantly, social interaction.

🥇 MINI OLYMPICS – MARGAM

Tuesday saw members of the Neath and Margam Age Connect groups come together to compete in the latest round of our Community Reds Mini Olympics!

Teams representing Neath and Margam went head-to-head, while the remaining members of the Margam group formed the aptly named Margam Misfits team.

And it was the Margam Misfits who came out on top, taking home the 🥇 Gold medals! Margam secured 🥈 Silver, with Neath claiming 🥉 Bronze.

Congratulations to everyone who took part! 👏

Of course, it wasn't just about the medals. Everyone enjoyed a fantastic morning of friendly competition, conversation and laughter. The homemade refreshments were also greatly appreciated as participants took the opportunity to relax, chat and socialise with friends old and new.

🔵 BOCCIA FUN – SEVEN SISTERS

Today, we headed up to Seven Sisters to spend the afternoon with our friends at Me Myself & I.

The group enjoyed another lively Boccia session, with plenty of competitive spirit and several closely fought matches along the way!

After some excellent play from both sides, it was the Blue Team who emerged as the overall winners. Well done to everyone who took part! 👏

Our Community Reds Outreach Programme works alongside our valued community partners to give adults aged 50+ opportunities to participate in regular physical and social activities within their local communities.

For over three years, we have been delivering a range of inclusive activities designed to help people improve their physical, mental and social wellbeing.

Each session incorporates three key elements:

⚽ Physical activity – including strength, mobilisation, balance and coordination exercises.

🏆 Inclusive activities – adapted games and challenges that encourage participation, build confidence and bring people together.

☕ Friendship and social interaction – providing time to chat, share experiences and build meaningful connections.

By encouraging people to become more active and connected, we aim to help reduce social isolation, improve wellbeing and create opportunities for everyone to get involved.

Our philosophy remains simple:

“Ensuring Nobody is left sitting on the Bench.”

Because at the Community Reds, it's not just about the activity or the result. It's about participation, friendship, inclusion and the difference we can make together.
