🐾 Tonight we met two lovely dogs who wish to be part of our Wednesday morning social / 2 hour dog walk 🚶 Freya and Lucy were lovely and big hits with our young adults!

Lottie loves everyone and is the perfect dog! 🐶 her daughter Winnie is still a puppy and highly strung so we knew if they could tolerate her, they were good to go with all of the others 🐾

Great news! Freya and Lucy are now part of Fit Paws - Dog Running and Walking Service and will be joining us Wednesday mornings 👏 give a big welcome to Freya and Lucy 👋 🐾

THE SEND FAMILY CALCULATION 🧮

“Shall we just go?”

Just go.

Okay. Give me a minute.

How busy will it be?
What's the parking like?
How far is the car park from the actual place?
Can we get back to the car quickly if everything goes wrong?
Are there toilets?
What are the toilets like?
Hand dryers? 😬
Is there somewhere quiet?
How loud will it be?
How many people?
Will there be queues?
Can we avoid the queues?
What's the weather doing?
Too hot? Too cold? Too windy?
What clothes will actually be tolerated today?
Is there food?
No, not food. Food they will actually eat.
Should I bring food anyway?
Obviously I should bring food anyway.
Headphones?
Charged?
Phones?
Charged?
Emergency charger?
Drinks?
Medication?
Something familiar?
Something distracting?
Something to regulate with?
What's the escape route?
What's Plan B?
What's Plan C if Plan B turns out to be unexpectedly closed/busy/noisy/different from the website?

And crucially…

How much does this cost if we pay £87 to get in and somebody needs to leave after eleven minutes?

Because that's the bit people don't always see.

Sometimes when a SEND family says yes to a completely ordinary day out, there's been an extraordinary amount of calculation behind it.

We're not necessarily pessimistic.

We're not assuming it's going to go wrong.

We're trying to give it the best possible chance of going right.

And occasionally, after completing the calculation, carrying half the contents of the house and preparing for seventeen possible scenarios…

everyone has a brilliant time.

Which obviously means we didn't need any of it.

And that, naturally, will be the day you discover you left the headphones on the kitchen table. 😂

🌱 Today was a little special 🪴 Alex our head gardener officially opened Thrive Hub Bromsgrove allotment with our young adults seeing for themselves where we will be growing our produce which we will cook with 🍅 🧑‍🍳

Alex grew many of the plants himself and has worked so hard, it was such a joy today to see him THRIVING at the allotment 🌱

Our young adults helped to water the plants and enjoyed the peace and quiet for a few moments 🌳

A huge thank you to Baz who has been keeping everyone alive and helping to build everything, he really is the nicest bloke who has worked his socks off 🫶 also to Nick for your skills💪 and to everyone who has donated items, the place is looking brilliant!

Also a thank you to the allotment crew who manage the allotments and our gardening neighbours 🧑‍🌾 you’ve made us feel welcome and now this project is allowing our young adults with special education needs THRIVE outdoors, learn about gardening, growing produce and being together 🌳

We didn’t stop long but it was fantastic to officially open the allotment and celebrate our progress 👏

🎯 🎨 Darts, pool, crafts and pet therapy in Social Sticks

🐾 Dog show, being a judge, entering dogs, winning a rosette 🏵️ stalls, lunch, icecream 🍦 hats off to Ruby Snacks for hosting 👏

🚙 Dropping dogs home, badminton, basketball 🏀

🧑‍🌾 Allotment, park and more icecream 🍦 we even picked some tomatoes at the allotment with our head gardener 🍅

A brilliant day with our young adults thriving 🙌

🌸 A very exciting new collaboration! 🌸

We’re thrilled to be partnering with newly opened florist Second Hand Rose Floristry and its owner Kennedy, a huge advocate for the SEND community. 💕

💐 As part of our Wednesday Day Provision, our young adults will get hands on experience in the florist, learning about floristry, customer service and what it takes to run a successful local business.

Building skills, confidence and independence in a supportive and nurturing environment. 🌱

Now for the big question who’s going to be our very first customer and what’s your favourite flower? 👀🌸
