🌸 Sometimes it's hard to know what to say

When someone we know loses a loved one, finding the right words can feel impossible.

We worry about saying the wrong thing, upsetting them or making their grief worse.
But sometimes the simplest words mean the most.

"I'm thinking of you."

"I'm here if you need anything."

"Would you like me to pop round for a cup of tea?"

You don't need to have the perfect words or know how to make things better.
Sometimes just being there, listening and remembering the person they've lost is enough.

A little kindness can mean more than we realise. ❤️

Long before a funeral begins... there’s a quiet checklist happening behind the scenes.

Vehicles prepared.
Paperwork checked.
Flowers carefully placed.

Names and timings checked again.
And then checked once more.

Families shouldn’t have to spend the funeral wondering whether everything is going to happen as planned.

That’s our responsibility.

Their only responsibility that day is to be together and say goodbye. ❤️

A meaningful funeral can start with a blank canvas.

New research shows that nearly three quarters of UK
adults believe a funeral should reflect the person who
has died.

Freddie's family created a celebration shaped around
the seven-year-old boy they loved. Amrit's family
brought together faith, memories and time to tell the
story of his life.

Their experiences show families what they can ask for
and what becomes possible with an independent
funeral director who listens.

We're supporting SAIF's campaign
to help more people understand their funeral choices.

What should someone wear to a funeral?

Black is traditional, but it certainly isn’t compulsory.

Some families ask everyone to wear bright colours, a particular football shirt, a favourite colour or simply whatever they feel comfortable wearing.

There are very few rules when it comes to making a funeral personal.

If wearing a splash of someone’s favourite colour feels like the right way
to remember them, then that can be every bit as meaningful as traditional funeral attire. ❤️

Neil Eccleston

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Neil, who passed away at Glan Clwyd Hospital on the 28th of September, aged 64 years.

A much-loved husband to Debbie, devoted dad to Charlotte and Simon, a treasured grandad and father-in-law, Neil was loved beyond words and his passing has left his family completely heartbroken and still struggling to come to terms with their loss.

He will be remembered with so much love and affection by his family, many friends and colleagues and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be very sadly missed.

Neil's funeral service will take place at 12 noon on Friday the 23rd of October at Blacon Crematorium, Chester.
Family flowers only please, but donations will be gratefully received on behalf of Rupert’s Rainbow .

For all enquiries please contact Sarah at our Broughton branch on 01244 530220

You don’t have to be strong for everyone...

After someone dies, we often hear people say they’re trying to “stay strong” for everybody else.

But grief isn’t something you have to hide.

It’s OK to have a difficult day, it’s OK to accept help and it’s OK if something you thought you were coping with suddenly feels overwhelming.

Sometimes looking after the people you love also means allowing them to look after you. ❤️

The little things matter..

Sometimes it's the smallest details families remember.

Making sure a favourite photograph is positioned just right.

Checking how somebody's name is pronounced.

Remembering that one family member might need a little extra help.

Making sure everything is ready before the family arrives.

None of these things are grand gestures.

They're simply part of treating someone's family in the way we'd want our own family to be treated.

Choosing music for a funeral

Choosing funeral music can sometimes feel like a surprisingly difficult decision.

It doesn't have to be traditional or sombre.

It might be the song they always sang in the car, something that reminds everyone of a holiday, a piece of classical music they loved or even a song that makes the congregation smile because it couldn't possibly have belonged to anyone else!

Sometimes those very personal choices create the moments people remember most.

A funeral should reflect a life ... and every life is different. ❤️

There’s no “correct” way to grieve

Grief looks different for everyone.

Some people cry. Some people talk. Some people need to keep busy, and others may even find themselves laughing at a favourite memory and then feel guilty for doing so.

There is no timetable and there is no right way to feel.

Be gentle with yourself and with those around you.

You may all be grieving for the same person but experiencing that loss very differently. ❤️
