Turning 50 does funny things to you. Well, it has to me. It’s made me reflect on decisions I’ve made as my life has unfolded.

I try not to have regrets. They are a waste of emotion.

But, on reflecting on my career path, I’ve questioned hard why I didn’t follow my passion earlier in my life.

After years of debilitating ‘IBS’ in my 20’s I discovered the power of nutritional therapy.

Why did I wait until my 40s to re-train and share this passion with others?

The fear of judgement, not fitting the mould and procrastination… all things I’m told put my clients off seeking support.

The similarities are striking. Don’t waste any more time like I did.

Are supplements really worth the money - or are we simply paying for expensive promises?

With shelves full of vitamins, powders and capsules claiming to boost our health, it can be difficult to know what’s genuinely useful and what’s little more than clever marketing.

Our latest blog, our Nutritional Therapist, Ruth Seymour, takes a closer look at supplements, when they may be beneficial, and when your money might be better spent elsewhere.

67% of UK employees say they are more likely to commit to their work if their employer prioritises investing in their wellbeing. A rise of 14% in just 2 years.

But - we also have a huge under-utilisation problem - 49% of employees did NOT use any of their employee wellbeing benefits last year.

The main reason? 'Benefits didn't match their interests'

Clearly there is no point in wasting time and money on big ticket 'wellbeing initiatives' if they aren't appreciated or used by your employees.

I knew this was a problem from my time working in big brand FMCG, but until I saw this most recent report I didn't realise how severe this issue was.

Honestly? It's taken away any imposter syndrome I was harbouring about the way I engage with the businesses I work with.

I always wanted to do something different.

I didn't want to repeat my experience of employee wellbeing in the corporate world which basically said ‘be grateful for the free fruit in the kitchen and the annual talk on mental health'.

Yes - I do talks and webinars about all things nutrition and wellness.

BUT - the real magic comes in the more innovative and inherently personalised programmes I run.

There is no chance of the benefit not 'matching interests' in my 1:1 pop-up clinics.

These confidential sessions explore anything physical or mental health related the person wants to bring to me.

Digestive issues, migraines, sleep challenges, fatigue, thryoid problems, libido, high blood pressure, low stress resilience.... to name but a few of the things we discuss. I help join up the dots in the 'body puzzle' in just a 30-minute consult that supports long-term resolution once and for all.

I work with leadership teams who want to maximise their performance - yes in group workshops, but crucially also, 1:1. No one size fits all here.

This quote from one of my clients last week sums it up beautifully (if a little sweary).

I'll be talking lots more about these approaches at the 'spiky end' really soon.

If you'd like to explore how you might like to put truly innovative employee wellbeing measures into your organisation, please get in touch.

Eat well but still feel bloated?

A lot of clients I have think they have food intolerances causing bloating only to discover their pain and discomfort has nothing to do with the actual foods they are eating.

Take a look at my latest blog to find out more. Link in the comments.

We don’t just talk about nutrition when you work with me.

No amount of kale, protein and pomegranates will help you if you permanently people please.

Doing this consistently whips through your nutrient reserves and leaves you depleted, impacting your physical and mental health.

Listen to the goat, even just a little ❤️

My pop-up wellness clinics in businesses are just 30-minute appointments but it never ceases to amaze me how much can be achieved from helping people connect health challenges and dietary & lifestyle influences.

This lady was dizzy and exhausted when I saw her 6 months ago. She came back to tell me how well she felt now and in her words ‘to be smug with you’ ❤️

Please get in touch if your employees or colleagues could benefit from a Wellness Clinic programme.

In my local area there are two GP surgeries.

One thinks I’m marvellous.

They work in collaboration with me for the benefit of the patient’s health and wellbeing.

Many patients come off medications or don’t start them because of the work we are able to do together, saving the NHS money and helping the patients feel well again.

Honestly, the other surgery has a suspicion that I’m some sort of witch doctor working in mythical ways. But they still suggest patients come to see me.

Either way, as a private clinic, I’m only able to work with those patients who have funds to spend on their health. Referrals to NHS Dieticians are heavily controlled and the waiting lists are long.

If more Nutritional Therapists were frontline in GP surgeries we’d get to patients much earlier and PREVENT so many conditions from becoming chronic.

You don’t need to be a health professional to see how sensible this is.

GP’s are amazing, but most get no more than a cursory few days of training in nutrition and almost all never have opportunity to discuss it with their patients in the average appointment length.

If you get the opportunity next time you are at your GP practice, please tell them there are surgeries making this work beautifully and to get in touch with BANT if they’d like to know more 🙏

The downside of getting your legs out at certain points of your cycle when little flying buggers want to feast on you!

Lots of other things wax and wane with your cycle because of this oestrogen histamine relationship such as bloating, acid reflux, skin issues and mood.

If you are wondering if your symptoms have a relationship with histamine, pop them below or DM me and we can discuss.

PS. Sorry about the legs, not an attractive angle
