Why are we called Hospital Direct? 💙

From day one, our founders, Helen and Phil Gutteridge, chose to work directly with healthcare professionals and patients to develop practical patient handling solutions that truly meet their needs.

That direct approach still defines us today.

Last week, Helen and Mike visited Stanmore National Orthopaedic Hospital to deliver a demonstration and training on the ProTurn Pack. During the session, the clinical team identified a small design change that could improve its use in practice for them.

For some manufacturers, a change for a single customer might not be considered worthwhile. For us, it’s an opportunity to join forces and improve.

As a British manufacturer, we can make adjustments quickly, communicate directly, and deliver tailored solutions without the delays and costs often associated with overseas production.

As the UK expands access to GLP-1 therapies and bariatric referrals continue to rise, one issue deserves far more attention:

Today’s discussions are focused on solving complex problems, real-life scenarios and highlighting the vital role training plays in helping healthcare professionals avoid the rapid decline of their patients.

Last week, Helen and Gwion visited Abergele Hospital in Wales, where the Stanley Eye Unit - long-standing users of our Ophthalmic Glide and Lock - kindly welcomed us back for refresher training and some fine-tuning of the solution. 💙

👁️‍🗨️ Developed in collaboration with a leading eye surgeon, the Ophthalmic Glide and Lock is a full-length positioning aid that enables two staff members to safely and smoothly position patients for ophthalmic procedures such as cataract surgery, reducing the challenges associated with traditional slide sheets.

Once positioned, the system helps secure the patient throughout the procedure, and also supports a more comfortable recovery by preventing unwanted sliding when sitting up. It turns out to be particularly valuable for elderly and frail patients.

We are sincerely grateful to the Stanley Eye Unit team for their continued trust and warm welcome. We were delighted by their interest in our wider range of products - including our mini wedges, which seemed to go down very well. 😊
