What an absolute blast we've had at NAEP - National Association fo Equipment Providers this year!💥

Not only were we invited to deliver a 10-minute presentation on the Exhibitors' Stage, showcasing a cost-effective solution for reducing pressure sores, but our featured product, the Morphematic, also won the NAEP Innovative Product Showcase Award.

We're absolutely delighted with this achievement. It's the second consecutive innovation award for the Morphematic, following its success at last year's Occupational Therapy Show.

We're still at Cranage Hall Hotel in Kenilworth, so if you're here, come and visit us at Stand 18. We'd be delighted to demonstrate the Morphematic, show you our range of outstanding patient positioning equipment and introduce you to Pat O'Brien, who is showcasing the Pobroll.

To find out more about the Morphematic, visit our product page or get in touch with us directly. 👉 https://www.hospitaldirect.co.uk/product/ergotrics-morphematic-lateral-patient-turning-system/

Thanks for the amazing introduction to our expert OT, Mike Cowan-Jones. 💙

Knowledge, training, skill development and continuous learning are essential in the ever-evolving field of patient manual handling. At Hospital Direct, we're proud to support the healthcare professionals on the front line. 🫡

We just spent two fantastic days at our new training facility at HD Headquarters, delivering the first RoSPA-accredited Level 3 Award for Theatre Patient Handling Trainers. It was a pleasure to meet such dedicated healthcare professionals, gain valuable insight into the realities of working in theatre, and help equip them with the knowledge and confidence to become effective trainers. Now they'll return to their organisations ready to raise patient handling standards within their own theatre environments.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us over the last two days. It was truly wonderful to have you with us. 💙

The next Level 3 Award for Theatre Patient Handling Trainers will take place on 8-10 September 2026. Book your place today! 👉 https://www.hospitaldirect.co.uk/training-and-demos/level-3-award-for-theatre-patient-handling-trainers/

We’ve arrived at what is probably the most exciting day of the summer for us! ☀️

Not only are we delivering the first of this year’s new and unique two-day RoSPA-accredited Level 3 Award for Theatre Patient Handling Trainers, but it also marks the first time we’ve hosted the course in our brand-new training facilities at Hospital Direct headquarters.

Led by Helen Gutteridge, day one is all about building knowledge and developing a strong understanding of theatre patient handling (spiced up with a bit of role play). Building this knowledge, skills and techniques into all general manoeuvres, whilst day two focuses on specialist questions for more complicated surgeries.

We’re delighted to welcome several delegates from The Christie Hospital in Manchester, alongside an independent manual handling trainer, as they work towards their qualification. We’re also joined by members of our own team, including Chris Morris and Gwion Barron-Jones, who will soon add this specialist theatre patient handling qualification to their professional expertise.

We’re looking forward to two fantastic days of learning, collaboration and practical training.💙

📌 Today is Moving & Handling Awareness Day, an occasion we are happy to recognise each year.
As a company that regularly works alongside members of the National Back Exchange community, we were proud to make our annual Moving & Handling pledge, introduced by the organisation. 💙

Our Head of Sales, Bruce and our talented Regional Manager Gwion represent us in promoting best practice in moving and handling.

Here is our pledge for the year ahead, one we are committed to upholding throughout this year and beyond:

“This Moving & Handling Day, we pledge to uphold best practices in patient handling and to deliver safe, dignified care at all times. We commit to continuous learning, strengthening our skills, and sharing knowledge to support one another — because moving and handling is everybody’s business.”

Supporting carers is at the heart of what we do. Our mission is to provide practical solutions that make caring safer, easier, and more comfortable, helping both carers and those they support thrive with confidence and dignity.

Yesterday, our fantastic Justin McBride attended the Carers Week 2026 Community Marketplace event in Dumfries, sharing good practice and showcasing community equipment designed to make everyday life easier for carers and end users alike.🕺

Throughout , we're celebrating and thanking carers for the invaluable contribution they make to families, communities and society every single day.

Why are we called Hospital Direct? 💙

From day one, our founders, Helen and Phil Gutteridge, chose to work directly with healthcare professionals and patients to develop practical patient handling solutions that truly meet their needs.

That direct approach still defines us today.

Last week, Helen and Mike visited Stanmore National Orthopaedic Hospital to deliver a demonstration and training on the ProTurn Pack. During the session, the clinical team identified a small design change that could improve its use in practice for them.

For some manufacturers, a change for a single customer might not be considered worthwhile. For us, it’s an opportunity to join forces and improve.

As a British manufacturer, we can make adjustments quickly, communicate directly, and deliver tailored solutions without the delays and costs often associated with overseas production.

That’s the Hospital Direct difference: listening, adapting and working together to achieve the best outcomes for patients and healthcare teams alike.🤝

As the UK expands access to GLP-1 therapies and bariatric referrals continue to rise, one issue deserves far more attention:
💡The growing complexity of airway management in patients living with obesity.
This presents challenges in patient safety, staffing, and system pressures affecting perioperative teams across the .

Patients living with obesity remain overrepresented in major airway complications, according to UK airway audits and recent best-practice recommendations from the Society for Obesity and Bariatric Anaesthesia.
At the same time, the physical strain placed on theatre teams during patient positioning is often overlooked.

More clinicians are now exploring approaches that improve both airway positioning and staff ergonomics, particularly in bariatric pathways where manual handling risks are significant.

Solutions such as inflatable positioning systems like DuoRoll are part of a wider shift towards safer, more adaptable perioperative care.
With obesity care evolving rapidly across the UK, the conversation around safer bariatric airway management is becoming impossible to ignore.

DuoRoll is exclusively available in the UK through Hospital Direct.
