More than one million young people in the UK are currently not in employment, education, or training. That is a number that should make all of us stop and think.
At the same time, many parents still believe that pushing children harder at school will automatically lead to a good job and a secure future.
But will it?
The world is changing faster than ever. Artificial intelligence, automation, and emerging technologies are already transforming the job market. Many jobs will disappear, while new roles are being created that didn’t exist a few years ago.
So perhaps instead of focusing solely on grades, we should be investing in the skills of the future:
✅ Emotional intelligence
✅ Public speaking
✅ Coding and AI literacy
✅ Creativity
✅ Critical thinking
✅ Logic and problem-solving
✅ Discipline and resilience
These are the skills that will help young people thrive in a world we are only beginning to understand.
More and more parents come to me wanting to better understand their child’s potential, motivation, way of thinking, and areas where additional support may be needed.
Through psychometric testing, we can look far beyond school grades. We gain valuable insights into a child’s strengths, natural abilities, behavioural patterns, and development opportunities that can have a significant impact on their future.
Many of these sessions have been eye-opening for both parents and children.
The question is: Is our education system, and our approach to parenting, keeping up with the pace of change?
Should we continue placing so much emphasis on traditional academic achievement, or should we be preparing children for the world that is coming?
The future does not belong to those with the best grades. It belongs to those who can adapt, think critically, collaborate effectively, and make the most of their potential.
If you would like to better understand your child’s strengths and help them develop the skills that will matter most in the future, you know where to find me.
