Supporting people at the end of their lives is one of the greatest honours in care. It asks for patience, emotional strength, and a level of compassion that cannot be taught — only lived. Ensuring someone passes with peace and dignity is the most meaningful outcome we can hope for, and working alongside someone like Isobelle makes this delicate work all the more profound. Her sincere compassion and gentle empathy meant the world to one of our customers and their family. In a moment that was both deeply vulnerable and deeply human, Isobelle offered calm, kindness, and unwavering presence. She acted with a maturity and grace that brought comfort when it was needed most.Isobelle truly deserves her Moments of Kindness recognition. Her actions didn’t just support a customer — they supported a family, created peace, and upheld the very best of what care should be.

Alzheimer’s never has to erase the person. Behind every diagnosis is a person with a lifetime of memories, experiences, relationships and things that they love. That’s why person-centred care is so important.
🏡From familiar routines and favourite places, small personal touches can make a big difference to someone living with Alzheimer’s. Our carers take the time to understand the customer behind the diagnosis, including helping them to feel safe, valued, respected and supported at home.
💜 Because every person deserves to be cared for with expert, compassionate care. 👉 Find out more about our personalised home care at helpinghandshomecare.co.uk

Today is World Alzheimer’s Day. Sometimes, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference. For someone living with Alzheimer’s or dementia, time, kindness and companionship can mean so much.
In this video, Jenny shares her experience of the difference Helping Hands carers can make at home. 🏡
Our carers are there to listen, reassure and bring a little extra kindness to someone’s day, while helping families feel supported too. Because care isn’t just about practical support. It’s about people, compassion and helping someone feel cared for. 💜

Communication is about more than just words. For someone living with Alzheimer’s or dementia, finding the right words can sometimes be difficult. Small changes in how we communicate can make a big difference.
✨ Speak slowly and use short sentences
✨ Give them time to respond
✨ Maintain eye contact and use their name
✨ Stay calm and patient
✨ Avoid correcting or arguing
✨ Use gestures and visual cues when helpful
✨ Focus on feelings, not just facts
Most importantly, every conversation is an opportunity to help someone feel heard, respected and understood. 💜

At Helping Hands we always say our team goes the extra mile—but our wonderful Iram ran a whole marathon for a customer in need. 🏃‍♀️✨
When a customer required medical attention at 6 PM on a Sunday evening, Iram was right there. After calling emergency services, she was faced with a daunting 8-hour wait for an ambulance. Knowing that a vulnerable customer shouldn't wait alone for that long, Iram sprang into action.
With professionalism and care, she quickly coordinated and gained consent from the customer, their Next of Kin (NOK), and our office support team to take matters into her own hands ensuring safety was key. Iram personally took the customer to A&E, stayed by her side to get all the vital information from the doctor, and kept her family updated every step of the way.
Thanks to Iram’s quick thinking and huge heart, the customer was treated and safely tucked into her own bed by 11 PM, avoiding a stressful night alone in a hospital waiting room. 🏡❤️
Iram, you are an absolute gem and a beautiful human being. Thank you for showing what true care looks like. We are so incredibly proud to have you on our team!

Really proud of our carer Sarah. She has always gone above and beyond with exceptional care. Delivering care that is person centred and considers the individuals long term wishes. Sarah has been working so hard in a package ensuring our customer is living well in her home and in the community she loves. We started this package with 30 minutes a week, and now we support with outings to the dementia cafe, feeding the ducks or just a coffee date. Recently our customer has flooded her home twice and both times Sarah has gone above and beyond with getting the water out the house and offering reassurance to our customer. She has a genuine affinity to wonderful care. This is so deserving. Well done Sarah

Derby has been booming lately — new customers, returning customers, and so many people discovering the real benefits of home care. But none of this happens by accident. The cogs that keep this incredible service turning are my Care and Training Practitioners and Care Coordinators. Without them, there would be no carers, no safe care, and no visits allocated for our teams to go out and work their magic.

On Saturday night, we swapped schedules and care plans for Dancing shoes and microphones. We sang ABBA at the top of our lungs, danced like true Dancing Queens, and came out not just as colleagues — but as friends.

This team is the heartbeat of Derby, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we’re building together.
