Some Useful Information for Patients to clarify how the system works.
Request for repeat medication
If you order online, over the phone or in person please be advised that your request is not dealt with on the day your request is made. Your request will be dealt with on the next working day, and can take up to 72hrs to process, this will then be sent to your chosen Pharmacy.
If immediate prescribing is required from Outpatients, please note the following:
HSC Trusts are obliged to have supply arrangements for immediately necessary and high-risk medications. This applies to any treatment that need to be started within 72 hours of the outpatient/ambulatory assessment as per HSS MD26/2022.
Trusts are asked to supply sufficient medication to last at least until the point at which the clinic’s letter can reasonably be expected to have reached the patient’s GP, and when the GP or other primary care prescriber can therefore accept responsibility for subsequent prescribing.
Discharge medications for newly commenced longer-term medications should cover an initial period of at least 28 days, where clinically appropriate (there are some exceptions to this e.g. drugs of potential abuse, original packs of inhalers / creams). Trust pharmacies will also ensure that patients have at least 14 days’ supply of regular medicines available on discharge.
Patients are encouraged when ordering to advise if they require early or additional medication due to holidays this is reviewed and may not always be granted due to the monitoring of the prescribed drugs.
