A question for those of you who have had surgery ...

Once your wounds had fully healed, what did you find most challenging about your scar recovery?

• Itching• Tightness• Pulling sensations• Dryness• Numbness or altered sensation• Something else?

And if you found anything that genuinely helped, I'd love to hear about it.

I'm currently exploring whether there's anything that may help improve comfort during scar recovery, so I'm interested in hearing about real experiences rather than recommendations from Google!

🌿 Did You Know?

Your lymphatic system doesn't have a pump.

Unlike your heart, which pumps blood around the body, the lymphatic system relies on movement, deep breathing and muscle activity to help keep lymph flowing.

This is one of the reasons why regular movement can be so important for both recovery and general wellbeing.

Even simple activities such as walking, stretching or taking a few deep breaths can help support healthy lymphatic flow. Small movements really do matter.

Were you aware that your lymphatic system works this way?

June is Lipoedema Awareness Month 💚

Lipoedema is a chronic condition that affects many women and is often misunderstood or misdiagnosed.

Symptoms can include:
• Painful fat tissue
• Swelling and heaviness
• Easy bruising
• Tenderness
• Reduced mobility
• Legs that remain disproportionately enlarged despite diet and exercise

Living with lipoedema can affect both physical and emotional wellbeing, and many people spend years searching for answers before receiving a diagnosis.

At Liberare, I offer gentle, supportive treatments including Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and Deep Oscillation Therapy (DOT) to help support lymphatic flow, reduce feelings of heaviness and improve comfort.

Every person is different and treatment is always tailored to the individual.

You are more than your diagnosis

Sometimes the body just feels different.

You’re more swollen than you used to be. Recovery feels slower. Sleep isn’t great. Tension builds more easily, and your body suddenly feels more sensitive or reactive than it once did.

I see this quite often in clinic, particularly in women navigating hormonal change, menopause, stress, poor sleep, post-surgical recovery, or simply the general load of everyday life.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Deep Oscillation Therapy can help support the body very gently during these periods — particularly where there’s swelling, heaviness, tenderness, fluid retention or tissues feeling overloaded.

It’s not always about pushing deeper or doing more. Quite often, the body responds better to the right approach at the right time.

Because recovery and wellbeing are rarely just about one painful area — the whole system matters 🤍

Feeling tight, swollen or uncomfortable after surgery?

One thing I don’t think women are told enough is how important good post-surgical aftercare can be — and how important it is to find the right therapist for your recovery.

Swelling, heaviness, tenderness, itching, altered sensation and fluid build-up can all be quite common after procedures, especially while the tissues and lymphatic system are still recovering.

Post-surgical Manual Lymphatic Drainage can make a real difference to how the body feels during recovery — but timing and technique matter, and not all treatment is the same.

After surgery, tissues are already irritated and under stress. The right treatment should support healing and fluid movement — not challenge the area further.

I use Deep Oscillation Therapy along side Manual Lymphatic Drainage. Which is designed to work very gently through the tissues and is often much better tolerated when swelling, tenderness and sensitivity are higher.

A few things worth asking before booking treatment:

• Do they regularly work with post-surgical clients?
• Is the approach gentle enough for sensitive or swollen tissue?
• Do they use anything alongside treatment to support recovery gently, such as Deep Oscillation Therapy?

And don’t be afraid to ask about qualifications, training and experience with post-surgical recovery specifically — it’s your body, and good aftercare matters.

If you’re unsure what’s appropriate after surgery, feel free to message me.

Mental Health Awareness Week starts today.

Mental health and physical health are often spoken about separately, but in reality the two are very closely linked.

Poor sleep, ongoing pain, stress on the nervous system, tension, fatigue, reduced movement, long-term discomfort… over time these things can start affecting far more than just the body physically.

When the body is under constant strain or not recovering properly, people can become more sensitive, more fatigued, less resilient, and generally just not feel themselves.

This is something that’s actually quite common, particularly in women dealing with ongoing tension, poor sleep, hormonal change, chronic discomfort or long periods of stress on the body.

Therfore, helping calm the nervous system, reducing physical tension and improving comfort in the body can still play an important role in overall wellbeing.

Sometimes people don’t realise quite how much they’ve been physically holding onto until the body finally starts to settle.

MLD is often associated with swelling or post-surgical recovery. But sometimes, it’s about something very different.

Sometimes the work isn’t about fixing anything. It’s about comfort.

It’s about working gently, adapting each session to what someone can tolerate, and focusing on comfort when the body is going through a lot. Sessions are guided entirely by how someone is feeling on the day.

Often, it’s the small things that matter most, easing discomfort and helping things feel a bit more settled.

It’s a different side of treatment, but an important one.

Sometimes it’s not about doing more.

It’s about doing just enough, in the right way.

Feeling tight, swollen or uneven after surgery?

Post-surgical lymphatic drainage can make a real difference to how your body heals — but timing and technique matter.

After surgery, your lymphatic system is disrupted. Fluid builds up, tissues feel heavy, and healing takes time. The right treatment can support fluid movement, reduce swelling, and help you feel more comfortable in your body again.

Not all lymphatic work is the same. Post-surgical treatment needs to be tailored to your procedure and stage of healing — working too deeply or too soon can do more harm than good.

I incorporate Deep Oscillation Therapy to support recovery gently, especially in the early stages when tissues are more sensitive.
If you’re considering treatment, it’s worth asking:

• Is this appropriate for my stage of healing?
• Do they have post-surgical experience?
• Is the approach gentle enough for recovery?
The right treatment supports healing — it shouldn’t challenge it.

Your hips probably aren’t the problem.

A lot of people come in with tight hips or recurring lower back pain, but it’s not always where the issue starts.

Often, the body is just adapting to what’s being asked of it. If something isn’t moving well, or not doing its share of the work, another area will pick up the slack. Over time, that area ends up doing more than it should, becomes more sensitive, and starts to feel tight or painful.

It’s also not just about how much you’re doing. It’s influenced by how you move day to day, how well you recover, nervous system sensitivity, and previous injuries or patterns that haven’t fully resolved.

This is why repeatedly stretching or massaging the same area doesn’t always fix it. It might help short term, but the underlying pattern is still there.

Treatment isn’t about chasing the painful spot. It’s about looking at how you move, where effort is going, what’s doing too much versus not enough, and how your system is responding overall.

Sometimes that means improving movement elsewhere, building a bit more strength and control, or simply adjusting how much you’re asking of your body day to day.
