It’s Carers Week. This week we recognise the great variety of carers who make independent living possible for so many people across the UK.

The NHS England Commitment to Carers found that what carers want is straightforward: to be recognised, to receive the right information, to have flexibility, and to be treated as the experts they are. For too many, those basics still aren't in place.

Carers manage far more than physical tasks. They reduce isolation, advocate within complex systems, and hold things together in ways that rarely get acknowledged.

This week, if you work alongside carers professionally or know one personally, take a moment to check in with them as their commitment allows so many less able and vulnerable people stay in their own home and to continue to live with dignity.

If you want to get involved, there are lots of ways to take part. Find out more by visiting www.carersweek.org

You’re amazing. Through us all coming together and sharing our support, we can help ensure our communities recognise, understand and value unpaid carers. Your name will soon appear on the Building Carer Friendly Communities wall, once our team has approved your entry.

18th–24th May marks Dementia Action Week, raising awareness and understanding for those affected by dementia.

Dementia can impact memory, communication, behaviour, and everyday routines, affecting both individuals and their loved ones.

Creating safer, more accessible home environments can help support comfort, confidence, and independence for longer.

After a severe stroke, Alice’s mother spent several months in inpatient rehabilitation before preparing to return home.

Her family wanted her to be back in familiar surroundings, with the dignity, comfort and independence that home can bring. With limited space and no downstairs bathroom, a Mini WashPod temporary disabled wetroom provided a practical solution when the alternatives felt incredibly difficult.

The installation allowed Alice’s mother to access a shower and toilet downstairs, supported by her live-in carer, while remaining in the home she knows.

A reminder of how the right solution, at the right time, can make returning home possible.

"Life does not end with a spinal cord injury. It is the beginning of a new life."

For many people, recovery begins in one of the UK’s specialist spinal injury units, but the goal is often the same: to return home safely, with the right support in place.

This Spinal Injury Awareness Day, we’re recognising the individuals, families, carers and professionals who support people living with spinal cord injuries every day.

Today marks Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day, a UK-wide initiative supported by leading charities to promote the rights, inclusion and wellbeing of people living with a spinal cord injury.

More than 105,000 people in the UK live with a spinal cord injury, and every 2 hours, someone’s life is changed when they sustain one.

Today is a reminder of the importance of awareness, accessibility, rehabilitation, independence and the right support at home and in the wider community.

Stroke Awareness Month is an important reminder of how quickly a stroke can happen and how recognising the signs early can save lives.

Knowing the FAST signs and acting quickly can make a critical difference for someone experiencing a stroke.

Dignity Access has real-life case studies showing how their WashPod™ modular disabled wetrooms have helped people return home following a stroke.

Dying Matters Awareness Week is a reminder that conversations around death, dying and bereavement are never easy, but they can be deeply important.

Talking openly, when we feel ready, can help bring comfort, clarity and peace of mind for ourselves and the people closest to us.

This year’s theme, “Let’s Talk About Death & Dying”, encourages gentle, honest conversations around wishes, worries, care and support.
