Berry Delight at today’s Mindful Watercolour Workshop at Ye Olde Inn, Davidson Mains, Edinburgh. 🍓

Today we explored playful gouache berry minis, turning them into cheerful little fridge magnets bursting with summer brights, stripes, a wee bit of bling, and joyful creativity.

Together we paused to reflect on summery memories, the virtues of seasonality, the rewards of waiting, and the mindful pleasure of sumptuous eating. A gentle reminder to slow down and savour the sweetness of the season.

Well done everyone for your openness to trying new watercolour mediums and for giving yourselves permission to play and experiment creatively.

A heartfelt thank you to lynettegray for coming along today and helping me reach out and spread the word about Sandpiper Arts. Your support means so much.

And thank you too to Laurin and the team for your warm hospitality and lovely drinks — always such a welcoming space for creativity and connection.

Have a lovely week ahead.

Next up: Sea and Surf — last few spots remaining.

Today’s Mindful Walk took us to the amazing Cacti and Succulents Show hosted by the wonderful Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society at Saughton Park.

I think I’m officially converted 😊
These quirky little delights completely stole my heart.

We met some incredibly dedicated growers today, and I left with such admiration for their patience and care — imagine nurturing a cactus from seed for two years to reach thimble size. A quiet reminder that growth often happens slowly, gently, and out of sight.

It was truly a feast for the eyes and such an education. Thank you to everyone involved for such a welcoming and inspiring event.

Perhaps this could become a theme for our Autumn Mindful Watercolour workshops… 🌵🎨

Well worth a visit if you’re nearby.

Cut Flower Joy Today 🌸✨

‘Black Swan Poppy Posies’ gathered this evening from the garden — 5 sumptuous little jam jar arrangements made from the shorter stemmed blooms for tomorrow’s Berry Delight Mindful Watercolour Workshop at Ye Olde Inn, Davidson Mains, Edinburgh.

Honestly one of my favourite Sunday evening rituals. Snipping, gathering, arranging and creating tiny posies from whatever is flourishing in the garden that week. Proof that flowers don’t need long stems or grand arrangements to bring joy.

If you love flowers, I really encourage you to have a go at making little jam jar posies at home. Such a simple, mindful activity — slowing down, noticing colour, texture and shape, and creating something beautiful from the smallest cuttings. Pure wellbeing in a jar 💐

Tomorrow we welcome .co.uk to our yummy session 😃

My heart swelled and my mind slowed as I visited the this morning.🙂

There was so much calm and joy to be found in the gardens, exhibition, and shop today. After this week’s rain and sunshine, the gardens felt especially lush and abundant.🌸

Thank you to all the amazing team members who took the time to chat with me today. It reminded me what an incredible resource this place is for wellbeing, creativity, and connection — and how lucky we are to have it right on our doorstep.

My cup was full to the brim afterwards. ☕️

Well worth popping down for a nature, art, and wellbeing top-up. And if you visit, make sure you find the blue Meconopsis beside the stone bridge on the east side — absolutely spectacular.😃

Cut flower happiness today 🌼

Gathered a wild and joyful bouquet for a dear friend with Poppy Black Swan, irises, Lady’s Mantle, yellow spikey blooms from my parents’ garden cuttings, foraged greenery and enormous self-seeded hellebore leaves hiding behind the gate.

I love how gardens quietly surprise us. Seeds travel, plants return and unexpected beauty appears when we least expect it.

Flowers grown to share always feel extra special.

Happy Gardening

A little update from Sandpiper Arts 🌿

Our Outdoor Mindful Sketching Pop Ups are being postponed for now, but only while I gather a few more ideas about the best ways to share these creative opportunities with the local community.

I’ve had a fabulous morning visiting Saughton Gardens, soaking up the beautiful surroundings and chatting along the way with the lovely team @ Foursquare Café, Caley Horticultural Society volunteers, the gardening team and local residents about workshops, creativity and community activities. It was such a joy to connect, hear people’s thoughts and enjoy a little inspiration in the sunshine.

I also couldn’t resist sharing some of the amazingly vibrant and lush blooms I spotted along the way… so much beauty and colour to inspire future sketching and painting sessions. Nature really does have a wonderful way of filling the creative cup.

Sometimes creative plans need a little pause, like a garden gathering strength before the next bloom. I’m looking forward to bringing these mindful outdoor sketching sessions to life in a way that feels welcoming, relaxed and easy for people to discover.

Thank you as always for your encouragement and support. More updates soon and plenty more creativity ahead.
