Couples therapy is one of those appointments people approach with more hesitation than most, worried about being blamed, worried their partner won’t be honest, wondering if booking it means the relationship has already failed.
None of that is what it actually is.
It isn’t a courtroom. Nobody’s there to decide who’s right. The focus is on understanding the patterns that have built up between you patterns that often turn out to be a handful of recurring themes rather than the dozens of separate problems it can feel like.
Your first session isn’t about solving everything in one go. It’s a chance to talk about how you met, what’s shifted, and what you’d each like to feel more of alongside recognising the strengths that are still there, because even couples who feel very disconnected have usually shared plenty of good history.
You don’t have to be in crisis to come, and it’s fine if one of you feels more certain about it than the other. What matters is a willingness to show up honestly.
