⚽️ It’s not every day a young person advocates for exactly what they need, but today, that’s exactly what happened.

One of our young people asked for their session to be centred around a group game of football – a huge step for them. So, naturally, we all donned our England shirts and headed to an indoor football venue, which we had all to ourselves! 🙌⚽️

What might look like “just football” is actually so much more.

At Speakeasy, we know that when young people feel safe, understood, and free from judgement, their confidence grows and their communication flourishes. By embracing their interests and preferred ways of connecting, we create opportunities for self-expression, meaningful relationships, and personal growth.

Today was a perfect reminder that therapy doesn’t always happen around a table. Sometimes it happens on a football pitch. ❤️

💙 Feedback Friday 💙

Words like these never lose their impact. ✨

We know that assessment days can feel overwhelming for families, so hearing that a parent felt listened to, supported and reassured throughout the process means so much to our team.

A special mention to Carla, one of our wonderful Occupational Therapists, whose thoughtful and compassionate approach helped make this family’s experience a positive one. 🌟

Thank you for trusting us to be part of your journey and for sharing your kind feedback. 💙

💙 You Asked, We Answered – Part 2

One of the most common challenges parents shared with us was:

👉 “Making tasks achievable.”

If your child freezes, avoids a task, or has a meltdown over what seems like a small request, it can be easy to assume they’re being defiant.

But often, it’s not defiance, it’s overwhelm.

ADHD brains can find it difficult to know where to start, estimate how long something will take, and organise the steps needed to get a task done. What seems simple to us can feel huge to them.

In this video, our wonderful Occupational Therapist, S.J., shares some practical ways to make tasks feel more manageable:

✅ Break tasks down into tiny, achievable steps
⏰ Give regular time warnings before transitions
⏳ Use timers to reduce pressure and increase predictability
🧩 Allow movement and fidgets to support focus
🕒 Make time visible with countdown apps or clocks

Small changes can make a big difference when it comes to reducing overwhelm and building confidence. 💙

At Speakeasy Therapy, we believe support doesn’t stop at diagnosis. That’s why we’re continuing to answer the questions and challenges you’ve shared with us.

💙 You Asked, We Answered – Part 1

Recently, we asked parents of children with ADHD to share the most challenging part of their day. The response was incredible, and over the coming weeks we’ll be answering some of the most common themes you’ve raised.

The first challenge we’re tackling is:

👉 “After a day of masking at school.”

Many children spend all day trying to meet expectations, manage their emotions, and fit in. When they get home, they may be exhausted, overwhelmed, and in need of time to reset.

In this video, our wonderful Occupational Therapist, Evie, shares some simple strategies to help make the after-school transition a little easier:

🏡 Give your child time to decompress
🤫 Keep things calm, quiet, and predictable
⏸️ Avoid demands, chores, or homework straight away
🧸 Create a cosy, safe space to unwind
🤗 Offer connection and comfort through deep pressure, cuddles, or hugs (if they enjoy them)

At Speakeasy Therapy, we believe a diagnosis should never be the end of support, it should be the beginning. That’s why we’re committed to helping families navigate the challenges that come after diagnosis too.

Keep an eye out for Part 2 as we continue answering your questions and sharing practical support from our team. 💙

💙 Sometimes the most powerful feedback comes from parents who have lived the journey themselves.

Many families believe that once an ADHD diagnosis is received, the next step is simply speaking with school. What they often don’t realise is how much practical support, understanding and confidence can be gained through specialist therapy.

At Speakeasy Therapy, we don’t believe a diagnosis should be the end of the journey. We help families understand their child’s unique strengths and needs, providing practical strategies that can make a real difference at home, at school and in everyday life. 🌟

👇 Did you know Occupational Therapy can support children with ADHD and their families after diagnosis?

💙 One of the most common things we hear from parents after an ADHD or autism diagnosis is:

❓ “Now what?” ❓

While receiving a diagnosis can bring clarity and answers, it can also leave families with new questions, new challenges, and uncertainty about where to turn next.

At Speakeasy Therapy, we believe post-diagnostic support is just as important as the assessment itself. 🌟

From therapy and practical strategies to EHCP support, Annual Reviews, tribunal reports, and ongoing advocacy, we’re here to help families navigate the journey with confidence. 🤝

Because a diagnosis should never be the end of support.

✨ It should be the beginning of it.✨
