Well this is has been a novelty…

Last week I actually was able to have the door open at Souled Out and enjoy listening to the rain splashing down into the courtyard at Vine Mews.

No nervously watching the weather forecast…
No checking whether water is creeping across the floor…
No water running down the walls…
No strategically positioned towels…
And, most importantly, no wondering whether I’m going to have to start ringing clients and rearranging appointments because the building is trying to turn itself into an indoor paddling pool!

After years of rain bringing a certain amount of mild panic at the old shop, it feels rather lovely to just sit, listen to it, watch it bouncing off the courtyard and think…

“Ooooh, isn’t the rain nice.” 😂

It really is the little things.

A little admin update…

If you’re waiting for a reply from me, I promise I haven’t forgotten you. Any outstanding messages will be answered by 10pm this evening.

I’m a little behind this week because my long-time partner in crime and Souled Out administration assistant…

🐾 Gizmo Cat of the Long Tail Tribe 🐾
Garden protector, sofa warmer, mischief maker, chief napper, noisy git and all-round supervisor of absolutely everything…
was very poorly this week and sadly went over the rainbow bridge on Wednesday. 🌈🐾

He had been our constant companion for almost 20 years, so his absence has left a very big Gizmo-shaped hole and me feeling a little off kilter.

So please bear with me while I catch myself up and try to get my head back into work mode. I'll be sitting down with a cuppa and working through all outstanding messages tonight after work, and everyone will have a reply by 10pm tonight.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

And thank you, Gizmo, for nearly 20 years of chaos, cuddles, noise, long-tail antics and keeping Souled Out administration running to your own extremely questionable standards. 😂

A little late night elderberry magic in the kitchen this evening …

Tonight the whole house smells like a little hint of early Christmas — elderberries bubbling away with warming spices and filling the kitchen with that gorgeous, rich, autumn-is-coming smell.

I love stiring energy into elderberry syrup. Watching those deep purple berries simmer away feels like bottling up a little bit of late summer, ready to carry us into the cooler, darker months ahead.

Elderberries have a long history of traditional use through autumn and winter, and making syrup has become one of those seasonal rituals I really love.

Of course, despite having made it many times before, I apparently STILL haven't learned two important lessons…

1. Elderberries WILL turn your fingers purple.
2. WEAR AN APRON.

So tonight I have bottles and jars of beautiful homemade elderberry syrup, purple fingers, a slightly questionable-looking top and a house that smells like spiced magic.

Perfectly imperfect kitchen witchery. ✨😂

Struggling to switch off at night?

Sometimes our bodies are tired, but our minds just haven't got the memo.

When life is busy, stressful or we're constantly on the go, it can be difficult for the nervous system to slow down enough for truly restful sleep.

Massage therapy can be a lovely way of encouraging the body out of that constant doing mode and into a calmer rest and digest state.

By easing muscular tension, encouraging relaxation and helping to reduce feelings of stress, massage can leave you feeling calmer, more grounded and more connected to your body — all things that can help create the right conditions for a better night's sleep.

It’s been all about the nails at Souled Out this week so far!

I’ve used a little image editing on this one just to sharpen things up and tone down the glare from my desk lamp — because apparently photographing shiny nails is an art form all by itself! 😂

It’s also had me looking back at my nail journey over the last five years or so, and I’m thinking I might dig out some then & now pictures to share later tonight… just for fun (and possibly a little bit of cringing! 🤣).

Nails have always been one of the services I’ve found the most challenging. I’m definitely not the nail tech for you if you want to be in and out in an hour, and super-duper intricate nail art isn’t really my thing.

But I take my time, I keep learning, and I’m actually pretty proud when I look back and see how far I’ve come.

A huge thank you to everyone who has stuck with me through the nail dramas, the wonky moments, the “WHY am I doing this?!” moments and, yes… occasionally the tears. 😂
