If an NHS screening invitation lands in your post, make sure you act on it 💙📩

NHS screening is there to help spot certain health conditions at an early stage — sometimes before you notice any symptoms. Finding a problem sooner can mean more treatment options and a better chance of successful treatment 🩺

Different screening programmes are offered depending on your age, s*x and individual circumstances. They can help detect conditions including some cancers and abdominal aortic aneurysms before they develop into something more serious ⚠️

Many NHS screening checks are straightforward, take very little time and are provided free of charge 👍

Feeling healthy doesn’t always mean there’s nothing to check. Attending your screening appointment can offer peace of mind or identify a potential concern at an earlier, more treatable stage 💙

So, if you’ve been invited for NHS screening, don’t put it off. Taking a few minutes to arrange your appointment could have an important impact on your future health and wellbeing 🌟

💉🍂 Flu Vaccinations – Coming Soon! 🍂💉

We’re expecting our 2026 flu vaccine delivery within the next few weeks, and we’ll be able to start vaccinating eligible patients from 1 October 2026. 📅

We may also be able to offer COVID-19 vaccinations at the same time for eligible patients – we’ll share more information as soon as arrangements are confirmed. 💙

🏥 Please consider having your vaccination with us at Pelaw Medical Practice.

You may be offered your flu vaccination elsewhere, including at a local pharmacy, but choosing to have it at your GP practice really does help us.

For every vaccination we provide, the practice receives funding which goes directly towards supporting the services we offer to our patients. By having your vaccine with us, you’re not only protecting yourself this winter – you’re also helping us to support, maintain and improve our services for the whole practice community. 🩺💙

It also means we can make sure your vaccination is recorded directly in your GP record and gives us another opportunity to help keep your healthcare up to date. ✅

Symptoms of cervical cancer can be caused by many different conditions but it’s important to get them checked by a GP. These include:

➡️ Vaginal bleeding unusual for you
➡️ Changes in vaginal discharge
➡️ Pain for discomfort during s*x
➡️ Pain in your lower back or pelvis

A gentle reminder as hot weather approaches 🌞🌞...for those taking an SSRI antidepressant (such as sertraline, citalopram, and fluoxetine). Hot weather and heat can disrupt the body's temperature regulation and increase sweating. This raises the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and overheating during hot weather. Do not stop taking your medication; instead, take extra care to stay cool and hydrated. 💦💦
