Today I was honoured to be invited to the launch of Scotflix, an incredible idea created by Maureen Hascoet de Cuestas to help fill a very real gap in Scotland’s creative industries.

Scotflix is about creating opportunities for Scottish screenwriters, film directors, filmmakers and other creatives who have the talent and the stories to tell, but perhaps haven’t had access to the right circles, connections or financial circumstances to get their work seen.

At the heart of it is something even more important: giving back to communities and making creativity accessible to everyone. No elite circles. No financial barriers. No subscription. Just a platform where Scottish talent and Scottish stories can be discovered and watched for free.

And I couldn’t be prouder that FEVER a short film by SISCO, our prison-based film exploring male su***de, will now have a home on the platform. That means anyone can watch it completely free of charge, and now we get to take Fever on the road too, continuing the conversations this film was created to start.

Maureen, I am so incredibly proud of you. Proud to support what you are building, but even prouder to call you my friend.

You are an inspiration. You are unstoppable.

Forever your friend, and forever proud of you. ❤️

There’s something incredibly poignant about the fact that one of the last poems my dad Sisco ever wrote before he took his own life in prison has now been turned into a song by my son, Kolby.

That song became part of the movie Fever written by Gemma Muir and produced by Gary Fraser and Maureen Hascoet.

Tomorrow, Fever launches on Scotflix, and we’re going to make it accessible to everyone.

September is Su***de Prevention Month. This film, this song and this story are about reaching the people who can so often feel completely out of reach, and reminding them that they matter.

Well done, Kolby.

Your grandda would be so incredibly proud of you. ❤️

Today, on World Su***de Prevention Day, one of our senior volunteers, Tosh, shared a story with us about hope, and about something that gave him hope when he needed it.

Today is a day to remember those we have tragically lost to su***de, and to hold their families, friends and loved ones in our thoughts.

But it’s also a day to send a message of hope to anyone who may be struggling, sitting in a dark place, or who simply needs reminded of something incredibly important:

There is a place on this earth for you.
You are loved.
You are wanted.
You are cared for.
And there is hope.

Please take five minutes out of your day to listen to Tosh’s story of hope.

We’re sure that by the time you reach the end, the hairs on your arms will be standing up too.

And if today is difficult for you, please remember, you don’t have to face it alone. 💚

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day.

Today, we walk in memory of Sisco, my dad, and in memory of every man, woman and child whose life has been lost to su***de 💔

We believe every life is worth saving. We believe su***de deaths are preventable when people have access to the right resources, genuine love, compassion, understanding and support.

Behind every statistic is a person. A name. A face. A story. Someone’s child, parent, sibling, partner or friend. Someone who mattered then and who still matters now.

Surely every life matters.

So today, let’s care a little more. Check in on someone. Listen without judgement. Be kinder than necessary. Tell the people you love that they matter, and mean it.

For Sisco, and for every other beautiful soul we carry with us:

You mattered. You still matter.
Your story will not be forgotten.
And for those still fighting, please stay. 💜

Challenging stigma through animation and art.
A massive thank you to Jen at Creative Spark Theatre Arts and the whole team at Braw Talent for helping us create this incredible animation.

We wanted to find a way to help people understand addiction, to offer a glimpse into what can be happening inside the mind of someone who has experienced trauma, and to reach people in a way that words alone sometimes can’t.

There’s an old saying: when we know better, we do better.

We hope this animation offers a small insight into just how difficult it can be to navigate a life affected by alcoholism or addiction.

Judgement doesn’t get us anywhere.

Sometimes, what a person needs most isn’t another opinion about where they’ve gone wrong. They need a hand to help them back up. They need compassion, connection and people willing to love them until they can begin to love themselves again.

We hope you enjoy this animation as much as we enjoyed bringing it to life.

WE’RE FINALISTS!

We’re absolutely delighted to announce that SISCO has been nominated for the Scottish Recovery Awards 2026, and we’ve made it through as a finalist in the "Hope Beyond the Walls" category!

To say we’re ecstatic would be an understatement.

Anyone who knows the team at SISCO knows they go above and beyond every single day. They go beyond their roles, beyond expectations and, importantly, beyond the walls of the Scottish Prison Service.

To be recognised in the Hope Beyond the Walls category means so much to us. It shows that the work we do within the Scottish Prison Service, bringing hope, connection and the possibility of recovery to those who need it most, is being seen and recognised.

We also want to say a massive thank you to Paul and the whole team at Abbeycare for their continued support throughout the history of our charity. Your belief in SISCO and the work we do means so much to us.

Whatever happens on the night, we are incredibly proud of our team, our community and everyone who has been part of this journey.

Let’s celebrate recovery. Let’s make recovery visible, accessible and attractive to the still suffering. 💜🎗💜
