Caring for someone else is important… but so is caring for yourself 💛
Here are some gentle reminders for carers:
🍎 Try to eat regular, balanced meals
💧 Stay hydrated
⏸️ Take short breaks when you can
💬 Reach out for support
Looking after your own nutrition and wellbeing helps you continue to care for others 💙

🚫🍎 Nutritional stigma affects ALL types of diabetes.
📊 Over 8 in 10 people with Type 1
📊 And 7 in 10 with Type 2
…face constant blame and judgement.
💭 Harmful myths still persist:
❌ “Sugar causes diabetes”
❌ “You can’t eat carbs if you have diabetes”
🛑 These are NOT true — and they cause real harm.
🧬 Diabetes management is complex:
👤 It’s individual
⚖️ It’s about balance
📈 It involves insulin, medication, lifestyle & more
✅ Dietetic science shows there’s no one-size-fits-all approach
🍽️ All foods can fit — with the right knowledge & support
💙 Let’s replace blame with understanding
🗣️ Challenge misinformation
🤝 Support people, don’t shame them
This let’s ⚾

On the last day of the National Smile Month (www.dentalhealth.org/national-smile-month), we're focusing on "Free sugars". And you might wonder what are they...? In short, free sugar is any sugar added to a food or drink, which damages our teeth. But don't take our word for it - visit British Heart Foundation to get a lot more information on this (& a lot of other health topics), on a page dedicated to free sugars, including a video: www.bhf.org.uk/informationsupport/heart-matters-magazine/nutrition/sugar-salt-and-fat/free-sugars
Or you might opt for the information on the British Dietetic Association's page on sugar, including free sugars: www.bda.uk.com/resource/sugar.html
Look after your smile!😁🪥🦷

🚫⚖️ Food shame is actively harming clinical outcomes.
📉 Over HALF of people avoid healthcare appointments due to shame.
💭 Fear of judgement about:
⚖️ Weight
📊 Blood sugars
🍽️ Food choices
…means people are missing the care they need.
😔 This isn’t motivation — it’s harmful stigma.
🛑 Shame leads to:
❌ Delayed support
❌ Poorer health outcomes
❌ Increased isolation
✅ What people need instead:
💙 Compassion
👂 Listening
🤝 Support without judgement
This let’s:
🔥 Call out food shaming
🙅‍♂️ Challenge blame culture
🗣️ Change the conversation
⚾ Help

🚫🍽️ Diabetes is a medical condition — NOT a moral failing.
Yet so many people face daily judgement… especially about food.
👀 Sound familiar?
❌ “Should you be eating that?”
❌ “Did you bring this on yourself?”
❌ “Just cut out sugar!”
🛑 Let’s call it what it is: stigma — and it harms people.
💬 Living with diabetes is complex 🧬
📊 It’s about hormones, insulin, genetics, environment — not just “willpower”
❤️ People deserve support, respect & understanding — not blame
This let’s:
🔥 Challenge myths
🙅‍♀️ Shut down the “food police”
🗣️ Speak up against judgement
🤝 Create a more compassionate conversation
Together we can ⚾💙
