So so excited to share some good news with you habibis! Listen Gallery is part of again this year! Kicking off in June, we are busy supporting three super talented artists; develop experimental audio tours for the Glasgow Necropolis, a site so so so close to my heart. This is our first official public presentation and it has always been a dream to do this and couldn’t have done it without all the support from the GI team past and present and all the artists for their trust! There’s an amazing programme of things happening in and out of the festival during this time and we all deserve to come together, to support and celebrate each other across the city and Scotland, espc after some seriously challenging times for our sector. I am rooting for anyone doing cultural work no matter how big or small and so grateful to have a project like this to give me something to look forward to! Thank you to all our ancestors and those of the site, who will guide us on this project 💞

Dear listeners, a small update from a very sore body and soul! :( I am also heavily medicated on sedatives so my words are escaping me. It’s been crazy as you know, from our last event to literally pushing so hard to get everything packed up. Alongside chasing estate agents, landlords, Glasgow city council - for a new home - nothing has come back… I am so desperate NOT to put our stuff into storage. Outerspaces has only provided a space in East Kilbride. Please don’t let us take it there. ANY leads on vacant spaces in Glasgow please let us know.

There’s been so many kind messages and I am so sorry I can’t get back to you all. My nervous system is completely out of whack but I have seen them all and they are keeping me going 100% …as you know Listen is NOT funded, I am doing this all unpaid so THANK YOU to everyone who’s sent financial aid, this will pay for a removal company as I am literally unable to lift anything else anymore. Thank you Suny who’s helped yesterday and today.

Some very kind folk have created a fundraiser, the link is in the bio. I am trying to hold on to all the supportive listeners out there sending their love but the silence of some is deafening. Please if you are in the arts / music / collective / feminist community, please don’t ignore this, please come through and share and help and spread the solidarity, share the fundraiser, chip in, anything! If you are richer and more resourced than us and can’t have our back in times of need then wtf is this? The world is also on fire and it seems crazy to even not have the ability to know what’s happening cos I’m so trapped in the labour of this move within such a tight time frame. That’s all I’ve got to say for now. Praying for change!

The dreaded news has come, we’re being forced to leave York Street. I’ve lost so much sleep from the anxiety and stress. It’s devastating, especially during Ramadan, but SubhanAllah, I now see it as a blessing. Ramadan isn’t just about fasting from food, but also from negative thoughts and words, and deepening our connection to the immaterial.

I’m sorry to those who planned events here, I thought we’d have another year. Having to cancel so many events and partnerships and letting you down is the hardest part.

If anyone has connections to vacant space in Glasgow, please reach out. I’m torn between wanting to keep going and feeling defeated by the same people and cliques succeeding here. I worked so hard to provide mutual aid and keep Listen Gallery alive as the only Iraqi-run, free space offering food, tea, and events, but the whole cultural system here is built on monetisation, which is exhausting and impossible to keep going when funders ignore you, and the culture values wealth over effort. No matter how hard I try, I can’t compete with those who have money or know how to speak the language of neoliberalism.

For now, I’ll start packing and moving things into storage. Any physical help or donations (link in bio) would be greatly appreciated.

I have full faith in the community we’ve built, I know people who support Listen are the kindest most caring people, and even if Listen ends here, I know it will live on in those who experienced it.

I’m truly sorry to everyone.

(And for the Islamophobes: my practice is personal, and I don’t want to convert anyone.)

Salams lovely people! This Thursday we open our first exhibition of 2026 ‘Semaphoria’ by joshua elza breen-tucci

Joshua has been a longstanding supporter of Listen, and it is always a joy to work with artists who really believe in this space. His practice brings together sound and sculpture in an elegant, masterful way, unfolding through movement and rhythm that often feels like a dance.
Through kinetic machines, Joshua challenges the idea of art as a static object to be passively observed, instead inviting audiences into dynamic, sometimes temperamental, co-creative encounters. His work is driven by a desire to perforate reality, drawing attention to phenomena and mechanisms that are often invisible, obscured, or overlooked.

This Saturday at CCA, the Liberated Zone returns with another amazingg programme curated by Lock it in ya diaries and tell a friend to tell a friend!
The courtyard will be our shared space to gather, listen, learn, sing, and grow on our collective commitment to care, solidarity, and future for Palestine

Listen Gallery will host an experimental singing workshop from 7 to 8 pm on Saturday 24 January. The session will explore song as a shared space using experimental voicing techniques. No singing experience is needed, just curiosity and openness.

There will be a full line up of activities throughout the day and evening, creating many different types of ways for us to create together. Please look out for the schedule of events.

Everyone is welcome.

WHO IS NDNMK-SOLUTIONS?

Bringing art and the absurd back into holy matrimony, I have been blown away by this artists imagination for some time now. It’s so hard to make participatory sound art with the right balance of concept, jest and care and I really feel they mastered it! What an achievement. Their website is an amazing taster so please visit () I am really excited to spotlight this artist and hope fellow artists, organisers, curators can come and get connected with their practice.

From Rotterdam to Glasgow, Thursday 15th January is a ticket into a vortex you didn’t even know you needed! January must explode and this night will ruin our lives in the best way, I think. X

Djatá Bart-Plange (1993, Meijel, NL(NL-GH)) is founder, CEO, and staff of NDNMK Solutions – a Rotterdam-based, artist-run company that specialises in ideology management and whiteness-related consultancy. We provide sound-focussed memetic mind castles that serve as spaces of reflection, confusion, digression, and possibly ascension.

Our projects are often narrative-driven and transdisciplinary – digital ecologies/structures where sound, short story, performance, image and point&click mutate/pollinate into exportable, likable, sharable, immersive pathworkings related to politics of knowledge, seductions of privilege, rituals of innocence, (new age) marketing strategies, etc.

Big love and gratitude to all the gorgeous people who came out on what seemed like the busiest Saturdays of the year! There was literally a million places to be last night but my deepest appreciation to y’all who performed / the flying duck staff / listeners / people who donated / people who shared the event / people who cheered us on. I think we raised £400, with being this close to xmas is crazy!

I’ma keep saying it but the only reason Listen Gallery is able to brave this hostile world is because of the community behind it, and every single person that believes in the importance of having a POC-femme run space in Scotland. The solidarity is real, thank you!

I especially wanna extend hugeeeee respect for who organised this all in two weeks and has the power to carry fruit to fruition with such ease and charm! You’re a real one!

Signing out but coming back next week with first event of 2026. All Listen Gallery wants for Christmas is liberation for Congo, Safety in Sudan, a free Palestine and release of all hunger strikers!

Dear Listeners,

Now public programming has come to an end I want to take a moment to reflect after being so wrapped up in cooking, cleaning, admin, programming, facilitating and general running around. Those who are signed up to the newsletter would’ve got a polished version, this post is a mess but I wanted to fit as much in as possible cos I am so proud of everything we have achieved here, together. I always say ‘we’ because none of this happens without you; patreons, donors, artists, audiences, visitors, people who send kind messages, people who root for it, people who support and people who listen. I hope to show my gratitude by holding this space and growing it with all of you in mind. I also must acknowledge my ancestors who continue to power me, and my faith that guides me every day.

Here’s Listen Gallery’s 2025 recap;

♡ This year we moved into a bigger space thanks to .scotland

♡ We had 2,032 visitors

♡We fed 1,375 people

♡ We hosted 38 events

♡ We held 4 exhibitions

♡ We supported 72 artists

♡ We held the Art Workers for Palestine Liberated Zone.

♡ We applied for £188,000 worth of public funding

♡ We were awarded £4,800 of public funding

This is just some of so many achievements, all done with so little finances. It’s been wild and I can 100% say although it’s been worth it, it won’t go on this way. I have never felt burnout like this year. Listen Gallery must receive funding from . It must remain free for the people who need it most. It must pay staff. It must evolve. And with this, the culture sector must also change,- the weight of the current Islamophobic, racist, classist systems and the structural barriers facing small, community-rooted and minority-led spaces are very real.

It’s been a jam packed and insanely special three days for the .as.porosity project here with .arr.tk and . What an amazing group of artists and people!

Here’s some snippets…it all kicked off with the DIY hydrophone workshop, then listening session on quadrophonic setup and concluding with a public symposium on critical/ethical field recording practices.

To the people who came to each event and those who came to all, thank you! Thank you for being so kind, so generous and so supportive of this project but also this space. For being so present in seeing, hearing and feeling. I know I say it a lot but I don’t take this work for granted, it’s truly an honour to be part of this space with you!

I also said it during the events but all the equipment at Listen has been donated throughout the years and thanks to Mathias we now have a subwoofer and quadrophonic system for artists to use, what a dream come true!!!! This means even deeper listening futures together 🥹

And last but not least thank you to the super chefs and staff at for the delicious food and always being so good to us ###x
