Spotlight Series: Meet Julie from Bevan Health

This week in our Spotlight Series, we're introducing Julie from Bevan Health.

Julie works as a Healthcare Assistant with the Calderdale Outreach team, helping to deliver inclusive healthcare services to people across the community.

She regularly attends clinics at Happy Days Homeless Charity, Ryburn House, Craven Mount, Focus4Hope and St Augustine's, ensuring that healthcare support is accessible to those who need it most.

Through her role, Julie helps connect people with the right services and support, making a real difference to their health and wellbeing.

Julie says: "Being able to be the link to connect people is an amazing thing. I can make sure that people get support when they need it."

🌟 Meeting People Where They Are 🌟

Last week, our CCA team and Laurence, our Cancer Champion, hosted an incredible Women’s Wellness Afternoon at the St Augustine's Centre!

It was a true "one-stop shop" for women’s health, advice, and screenings. We designed the event to break down barriers and make healthcare accessible to everyone in our community.

Why community-led health works:
👉 Real Impact: One attendee booked her vital health screening on the very same day!👉 Trusted Spaces: Providing care in a familiar, comfortable environment.
👉 Tailored Support: Delivering health information in a way that is right for them.

This is exactly what it means to meet people where they are at, supporting our community in the ways that suit them best.

🌍 Big shoutout to the ESOL department at Calderdale College!

They made raising cancer awareness a top priority for their staff and students—and we love to see it!

🙌In just one week, we connected with 100 incredible adult students from all corners of the globe.

🔍 What we found out:
Many were completely new to basic signs and symptoms.
Most had never heard of the UK's National Screening Programmes.
All of them were openly discussing this topic for the very first time!

🎉 Fast forward to today...Thanks to this teamwork, most of these students can now:
Chat confidently about health and cancer.
Find and access the right support exactly when needed.
Advocate fiercely for themselves and their loved ones.

Knowledge really is power!

The Calderdale Cancer Awareness Team had the best time networking, learning, and hearing about the incredible work other Macmillan professionals do in their roles. It was such a valuable opportunity to share ideas, gain inspiration, and celebrate the amazing support provided across cancer services.

We’re so grateful for opportunities like this and for the chance to connect with such passionate and dedicated people. Thank you, Macmillan, for such a fantastic event — we came away feeling inspired, motivated, and proud to be part of such an incredible community 💚✨
