With an extreme heatwave warning for parts of the UK, many of the 12 million people living with lung conditions may experience worsening symptoms.

To stay safe in hot weather, we advise the following precautions for people living with lung conditions:
- Take your preventer inhaler as prescribed and keep your reliever inhaler with you
- Keep your medicines out of direct sunlight
- Keep hydrated
- Take cold baths or showers to keep cool
- Avoid the heat by going out in the mornings and evenings
- Check the weather, pollen and pollution forecasts

If your symptoms are getting worse, follow the advice on your action or self-management plan or speak to a healthcare professional.

A red heat-health alert has been issued across parts of England until 25 June. This is the highest level of alert and indicates a risk to everyone's health, not just vulnerable groups.

Don't forget The Village Surgery has dedicated Carer's Champions and support available. If you are a carer, please either ask at reception for a carers identification and referral form or submit an online communication advising us that you are a carer.

Join us during 2026 (next week) for a day especially for unpaid carers - our Annual Carers Event. It offers a chance to socialise with other carers, find out about local support services and take part in a selection of workshops, including:
🚶 A short health walk.
🧘 Seated yoga & gentle exercise.
📚 Advice on planning ahead and legal matters.
💬 Opportunities to share feedback and experiences.
