Whatever your score, one week of extra screen time can take a real toll on children's eyes. Increased close-up screen work is one of the biggest drivers of childhood myopia — and it's rising every year.

Watch out for:

This bank holiday, we're asking parents to give their children's eyes a proper rest 👁️🌿

With half term coming up, kids are about to spend a lot more time on tablets, phones, and screens. Research shows that excess screen time is one of the key drivers of rising myopia rates in children — and the earlier we act, the better.

Our tips for half term:
✅ Encourage at least 2 hours of outdoor time daily
✅ Teach children the 20-20-20 rule
✅ Set screen-free windows before bedtime
✅ Book a children's eye test if they haven't had one this year

May is Healthy Vision Month — a reminder that clear vision and healthy eyes are not the same thing 👁️

Over 50% of sight loss in the UK is preventable — yet millions of people go years without an eye examination. A comprehensive eye exam at The Vision Clinic goes far beyond checking your prescription.

This week marks World Retinoblastoma Awareness Week (10–16 May) — and as clinicians, we feel it's our responsibility to make sure every parent knows the signs of childhood eye cancer 💜

Retinoblastoma (Rb) is the most common eye cancer in children, typically diagnosed before the age of 6. With early detection, the survival rate exceeds 96%. But too many cases are caught late.

Know the signs:
⚪ A white glow in the pupil in flash photos or dim lighting (leukocoria)
👁️ A squint — eyes not aligned
🔵 A change in the colour of one iris

The flash photo test: Take photos of your child with red-eye reduction switched OFF. Both eyes should show a red reflex. If you see white — seek help immediately.

If your child shows any of these signs, please see your GP or optometrist without delay. Our team is here if you have concerns.

May is Children's Vision Month — and we want to talk about something every parent of a myopic child should know 👁️
