We’ve been making some lovely changes to our private Room of Remembrance, creating a peaceful, comfortable and welcoming space for families.

We understand how important it is to have somewhere quiet and private to spend time together, reflect and remember a loved one.

We’re so pleased with how the room has come together, and it’s all down to Paul’s hard work. He’s put so much time, care and attention into transforming the space, and we think he’s done an amazing job.

We hope it provides a little comfort and peace to the families who spend time here.

A peaceful space for reflection, remembrance and time together.

Veterans Week | Meet Paul Hodgson

As part of Veterans Week, we’re proud to share the stories of our veteran members from the Hartlepool Branch.

Today we feature Paul Hodgson, who served as an AB1 Electronic Warfare Specialist in the Royal Navy.

Paul joined the Royal Navy in 2004, completing basic training at HMS Raleigh before moving on to Phase 2 training at HMS Collingwood. He later served aboard HMS Kent and took part in Operation Telic in Iraq in 2006. Following his return, Paul worked with the Phase 2 Training Group at HMS Collingwood as an Acting Leading Hand before being medically discharged in 2009.

One of Paul’s favourite memories from his service was aboard HMS Kent in 2006. Working together as a team in shifts, the ship’s company rowed the full length of the Suez Canal on rowing machines beneath the flight deck. Paul remembers it as a fantastic morale booster that perfectly captured the teamwork and camaraderie of naval life.

When asked why veterans should join the RBL, Paul said: “The monthly meetings, banter, and trips make it feel like you are back in service again. At the same time, you are supporting and helping the wider armed forces community, which gives a real sense of purpose and belonging.”

Thank you for your service, Paul. ⚓🇬🇧

Today, on Father’s Day, our thoughts are with all those who find this day difficult.

We remember the families we have had the privilege of caring for who are spending today without their dad, grandfather, stepfather or father figure.

We know that days like these can bring both treasured memories and deep heartache and we hope you find comfort in remembering the love, guidance and laughter they brought to your lives.

We also hold a special place in our hearts for the fathers whose children we have cared for. No parent should ever have to say goodbye to their child and we are thinking of those families especially today. Your strength, love and devotion will never be forgotten.

Father’s Day is also a time to celebrate the wonderful fathers who are still with us. On a personal note, I would like to wish a very Happy Father’s Day to my own dad, Paul, whose love and support have shaped me into the person I am today.

To my husband, Paul, thank you for being the incredible father that you are to our son, Emmett. Watching the bond you share and the love, patience and kindness you show him every day fills my heart with pride and gratitude.

And to my father-in-law, Colin, thank you for your guidance, support and the example you have set for your family throughout the years.

Whether your father is by your side, in your memories, or your role as a father has been marked by love and loss, we are thinking of you today.

🎖️ Congratulations Paul🎖️

We are delighted to share that our branch Deputy Standard Bearer, Paul Hodgson, has been voted in as Hartlepool’s Veterans Champion for this year.

The Veterans Champion works alongside the Armed Forces Champion (AFC) to help drive the delivery of the objectives and intentions of the Armed Forces Community Covenant, ensuring that veterans, serving personnel, and their families continue to receive the support and recognition they deserve.

This is a well-deserved achievement, and we are incredibly proud to see Paul taking on this important role within our community.

Please join us in congratulating Paul on his appointment and wishing him every success in the year ahead.
