Movement is a skill. Each time you practise, you’re refining coordination, balance, and body awareness (proprioception). Gentle, regular exposure tells your brain “this is safe,” so it lets you access more range, strength, and ease over time. Big, intense sessions can actually trigger protective tension and slow that process.

Your nervous system doesn’t learn from random efforts.
It learns from repetition it trusts.

Show up often. Learn how to breathe to support movement and move with awareness.
That’s how strength, mobility, and real change actually happen.

Balance isn’t just about strong legs or a solid core…

It’s a conversation 🧠✨

Every time you stand on one leg, shift your weight, or catch yourself from wobbling, your brain and nervous system are working 〰️ processing information from your eyes, inner ear, proprioception, joints to keep you steady.

Balance is a neurological skill.

And like any skill… it can be trained.

As we age, this communication can become a little slower or less clear.
That’s often when we start to feel a bit unsteady, hesitant, or unsure on our feet.

But your nervous system is adaptable. With the right kind of movement, we can gently challenge and rebuild those pathways… improving not just balance, but confidence too.

Think less “hold this pose perfectly”
and more “explore, adjust, respond.”

Your body is always listening.
The question is 〰️ what are you asking it to do? 🤍

Can’t believe it’s March! But enjoying some sunshine with my favourite fluffy friend ☀️🐾

Movement doesn’t have to be intense to be powerful.

Every wobble is information.
Every breath is regulation.
Every small adjustment is your brain updating its map of your body in space. It’s training:
〰️ balance reactions
〰️ joint proprioception
〰️ visual focus
〰️ adaptability

Movement is how we tell the nervous system:
You’re safe. You’re capable. You can adapt.

Don’t wait to feel ready to move.
Or for more energy, more motivation, a quieter head space.

Because movement creates readiness 〰️ not the other way around.

Gentle movement sends safety signals to the nervous system.
It improves circulation, joint lubrication, and brain-body communication.
It helps shift us out of “freeze” or overload and into regulation.

You don’t need a goal or to overly push 〰️ you don’t need to feel motivated.

Start where you are.
One breath. One stretch. One slow flow.

As Dr. Howard Luks puts it 〰️ movement doesn’t always need a purpose… but it always has an effect.

Come join me for small classes, lots of support and discover how movement can be fun and enhance everyday life 🤍

Your brain and your nervous system are your boss 🧠✨all movement starts there.

When you move with intention, you’re not just moving your body ➰ you’re training your nervous system to feel safe, steady and strong.

In this season of overwhelm take some time out to move your body and stay grounded ➰ and possibly a little more at ease ✨🤍✨

I am still running classes this week if you would like to explore some time away from the busyness of every day!

Move your body. Nourish it well. Be kind to yourself. Rest when needed. Repeat.

Move through this life with ease and strength 🧘🏻💫

Keep adopting and adapting and embracing change. I want to age gracefully (and that doesn’t mean behaving because that will never happen 🙃) but I want to continue to feel at home in my body as the sun and moon continue to circle the earth 🌞💫 I feel so much stronger and flexible now in my 50s than I did in my 30s.
I was riddled with back pain in my 30s which took over my life and I was unable to enjoy many of the things I loved even though I tried.
It was only through yoga and the gym that I reclaimed my body and my life, moving in new and varied ways and not just the same old ways. Building strength and flexibility in my muscles and joints and also learning how to fully relax, meditate and cultivate introspection (awareness of what is happening inside the body).
Feeling gratitude every day for an easeful body and peaceful mind (most days anyway)!!
