We are so very proud of Ruth for being shortlisted for the Proud to Care 2026 Awards.
Below are the 2 nomination write ups she received:
I would like to nominate Ruth for her exceptional care and understanding of my Mum Kathleen, 99 years old with dementia. She has made such a difference to Mum, who was depressed, would not eat and could not cope with life. Now she is happy and content, looks forward to her snacks and hot food. This is all down to Ruth's patience, her professional attitude and lovely sunny nature. I live abroad, so it has been a very stressful time for me too. Ruth ensures I see Mum on facetime which has also made my life happy as well! Thank you so much Ruth.

I'd love to nominate Ruth for the Community Carer of the Year Award. She consistently goes above and beyond in every aspect of her role, demonstrating exceptional compassion, dedication, and commitment to the people she supports.
What makes Ruth truly outstanding is her ability to see beyond a person's care needs and focus on what brings them happiness and fulfilment. Whether it is taking the time to arrange a hairdresser appointment because she knows it will boost a service user's confidence, or accompanying someone to an Elvis Presley tribute show simply to see the joy it brings them, she always puts the individual at the centre of everything she does.
She is passionate about ensuring that people continue to live rich and meaningful lives, regardless of age, illness, or capacity. For those who may no longer be able to make decisions independently, she works tirelessly to ensure they still experience the activities, interests, and pleasures that were important to them before their illness. She believes that a diagnosis should never mean the end of living life to the fullest.
Ruth also understands the importance of family connections. She goes out of her way to keep relatives informed and involved, particularly those who live far away and may not be able to visit regularly. It could be a FaceTime to a family in Spain or that extra phone call up country. Her communication, reassurance, and support help families feel connected and confident that their loved ones are receiving the very best care.
Her reliability is second to none. Ruth is always willing to step in at short notice to support colleagues and ensure continuity of care. She is a valued team member who can always be counted on when help is needed.
Beyond the practical aspects of her role, Ruth is a source of strength and encouragement for both the people she supports and her colleagues. She provides emotional support, guidance, and kindness every day, creating a positive impact on everyone around her.
Ruth embodies everything that outstanding care should be: compassionate, person-centred, dependable, and selfless. She does not simply provide care; she enriches lives. For these reasons, I can think of no one more deserving of the Community Carer of the Year Award
