And that’s okay.
Small changes can make big differences over time — and you don’t have to do it alone.
We’re here to support you through the real moments, not the filtered ones.

Learning is messy and takes time!

As parents we all want our young people to learn new skills, have better behaviours, to be kind, helpful, independent and responsible people BUT this doesn't happen overnight!

We all made plenty of mistakes on the way to becoming the adults we are now, and so will our children.

Anyone who has attended one of our Talking Teens courses will have heard us talk about parenting as bringing up the adults of the future - not just about bringing up children.

Dr Becky Kennedy https://www.goodinside.com/blog/the-learning-space-is-key-to-building-resilience/ talks about how frustrating and difficult we all feel when we are learning something new, and just like us, she encourages parents to support their children through this "learning space".

Check out this short video https://www.youtube.com/shorts/X689j743kzk if you would like to hear her speak about what is happening whilst our young people are learning and building resilience.

❓Do you have a Wednesday Why for us❓

If YOU have a parenting conundrum and you would like and answer from us or our followers please comment below or DM us and we will do our best to share some insights!🔎

Don't hold back.... we have been around a long time - nothing surprises us and we love a thorny question!

"Before the course I worried I was getting it wrong. Now I know nobody has this whole parenting thing figured out.... Thank you for reminding me that I don't need to try and be the "perfect" dad - showing up is what really matters"

Thank you for this feedback!

So, what does showing up look like?

It’s about time and connection — not the stuff

Here are some ways to connect with your young person — you’ll know what works for you both:

When you’re running mum’s or dad’s taxi:

🚗 let them know you like having these few minutes together.
🚗let them choose what you listen to - be open-minded!
🚗avoid using the time to tell them off or they won't want to engage
🚗ask about something they are interested in - if you listen to the small stuff, one day they will come with the big stuff

NOTICE what is going on!

Let them know you can see when they’re excited, bored, upset or buzzing.
They might not want a long chat or advice, but just feeling noticed helps them feel heard and loved.🔎

Step into their world — gaming, YouTube, TV, sport ⚽️📺🎮
Even if it’s not your thing, ask to join them. Showing interest builds confidence and sends the message: “You matter because I’m interested in you.”

And BE KIND — to them and to yourself.

Even on our worst days we all need to be treated with kindness.... we get it is hard when our children's behaviour is challenging and we are feeling challenged!

Challenging behaviour often comes from a young person who needs something and doesn’t know how to ask.

Give yourself a breather, have a cup of tea, take 5 minutes to text or call a friend, or scroll through some cat videos!☕📱🐈‍⬛

Then show up for them in the same way — a ruffle of the hair, a drink, a meme or cat video you had to show them.🥛📱🐈

Just something that says: “I’m here.”
