Tom and Liz have been examining eyes in the area since 1994 in Oakwood (Derby), then Alvaston (since 2007) and opened Kimberley Opticians in 2011. Together they aim to deliver great customer service in a friendly environment where you are the priority.

👀Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide.
👀65% of people diagnosed had no idea they had the condition. This makes getting regular tests crucial, as cataracts are incredibly slow to develop with symptoms almost imperceptible.
👀Cataract surgery has a success rate of over 95%. Many people report having better vision within days of treatment.
👀Cataracts can start forming from the age of 40. It may be unnoticeable at first, but eventually worsens with age and other secondary causes, like diabetes or other eye conditions.
👀Surgery to remove cataracts is the most common operation in the NHS. Over 400,000 cataract surgeries are performed each year.

👀Genetics
👀Excessive near work (reading/screen time)
👀Limited outdoor activity during childhood

You can’t fully prevent myopia, but you can reduce risk or slow progression:
👀Spend more time outdoors
👀Follow the 20-20-20 rule (every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds)
👀Maintain proper lighting while reading

And parents....get those children outdoors and limit screen time! Protect their eyes.
