We talk a lot about first aid for bumps and bruises, but what about the kind of health issues that don’t get discussed at the school g*tes or toddler groups?

We chatted with Claire Sparrow, specialist in pelvic health, Pilates guru, and best-selling author of Hope for Your Pelvic Floor to bring you all the information you need about pelvic floor issues like prolapse and postnatal incontinence.

You're not alone and there is help out there.

This one change could save a child's life.

This September marks the introduction of Benedict's Law, bringing new statutory allergy guidance into schools across England. For families of children with allergies, it's a really important step forward.

Schools are now expected to have:

✔ A dedicated allergy policy
✔ Annual allergy awareness training for staff
✔ Spare adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs)
✔ Up-to-date healthcare plans for pupils with serious allergies

While no parent ever wants to imagine their child experiencing an allergic reaction at school, knowing there are clear procedures and trained staff in place can offer real reassurance.

If your child has a serious allergy, now is a great time to check that their healthcare plan is up to date and that school has current emergency medication and contact details.

At Mini First Aid, we're proud to support schools with our new CPD-accredited Allergy & Anaphylaxis Awareness for Schools course, helping staff build the practical knowledge and confidence they need to respond when every second counts. Training is happening in schools across our UK network.

Have you spoken to your child's school about how they're preparing for Benedict's Law?

Research shows that children are up to five times safer travelling rear-facing because, in a frontal collision, the seat supports their head, neck and spine by spreading the crash forces across their back.

Yet despite this evidence, only 22% of UK children aged 2-4 are still travelling rear-facing.
So when parents ask us, "When should I turn my child forward-facing?", we tell them that the legal minimum isn't the same as the safest option.

The need for better protection is clear. In 2024, 559 children were killed or seriously injured as car occupants on UK roads, and 42% of children under 16 who died in collisions weren't wearing an appropriate restraint or seatbelt.

In this carousel, we're explaining the benefits of keeping your child rear-facing for as long as their car seat allows could make all the difference in a crash.

While everyone has been (hopefully!) taking some family downtime throughout August, our team across the UK has been busy delivering training and attending events. Here's a glimpse of summer with Mini First Aid:

- A connection Fran at Mini First Aid Thames Valley made at a networking event led to workplace first aid training and a local golf club and charity purchasing a The Daniel Baird Foundation bleed kit for their premises. Incredible to have more life-saving equipment and first-aiders in the community thanks to our team 🙌

- Katy Mini First Aid Bath & North Somerset issued a reminder about how hot metal grates and pavements can get for little feet when it's super sunny. Something to remember when the next heatwave hits.

- Michelle Mini First Aid Highlands & Moray attended a fun day in Inverness, giving first aid demos to families.

- Jo, trainer for Mini First Aid Lincolnshire North & Doncaster, trained some new first aid superstars at a summer holiday club at Lincoln Minster

- Jess from Mini First Aid Wrexham, Flintshire, Conwy & Denbighshire has been talking about what made her leave her job to become a first aid franchisee with Mini First Aid - a brilliant read for anyone considering a career change.

- Lowri and Ryan and the team at Mini First Aid Swansea, Bridgend, The Vale & Caerphilly have been running baby & child first aid classes for parents and grandparents.

- A collective team fundraising effort, led by Rachel Mini First Aid Leicestershire, Kettering & Corby , has been taking place throughout August with many of our team walking to raise funds for one of our charity partners, Children's Burns Trust. We're so proud of everyone who took part - what a brilliant effort! And there's still time to donate (see the link in the comments!)

With growing awareness around safer eating practices in early years settings, it's a timely reminder that childcare providers have a responsibility to ensure staff are equipped with the skills needed to respond to emergencies, including choking incidents, allergic reactions and other medical emergencies.

For nurseries, preschools, childminders and other early years settings, statutory requirements around Paediatric First Aid are there for a reason. When an incident happens, every second counts, and having appropriately trained staff can make all the difference.

At Mini First Aid, we deliver accredited Paediatric First Aid training designed specifically for those working with babies and young children, helping settings meet their statutory requirements while giving staff the confidence to act quickly and effectively.

If you're reviewing your training needs, now is a great time to ensure your team is up to date with both first aid and food safety best practices.
