An incredibly important part of the 5 Domains of Horse Welfare is Forage.

Today, this looked like Team AP using existing structures on the yard and adding enrichment for our horses to enjoy.

We also made predictions to see which horse would enjoy it most and made time to discuss the results (scientific thinking in action!)

Team AP treated the ponies to a water buffet today.

The buckets had: linseed, salt, apple and mango juice, turmeric and sticky w**d with the opportunity for the ponies to try each.

Everyone predicted which they'd prefer, we thought turmeric or apple juice would be the most popular.

Jess loved the apple and mango! Whereas Prince preferred the sticky w**d.

We found a beautiful self-seeded oak tree growing in the veg patch yesterday.

This was a brilliant learning opportunity to talk about the life cycle of trees and hypothesise how the acorn arrived in our garden.

We love a spontaneous learning opportunity here at Hope Meadows!

Responsibility is one of the key areas of our AP curriculum and today this looked like washing Ellie's feet as he'd been itching them.

Feather mites are incredibly common in horses with feathered feet like ours, so regular application of feather mites shampoo is essential for their welfare.

Our Primary AP young people did the most fantastic job!

How many can you name on Jasper in the next slide?

Some of Team AP have been exploring whether Clover is interested in returning to some ridden work as she has loved the positive reinforcement that we've been doing.

It's taken months of groundwork, desensitisation and patience to get her to the point where she was relaxed enough to let one of our young people lean over her.

Supporting horses and helping them feel confident in themselves and their capabilities is not the quick fix you often see. It's building trust, friendship, an intrinsic love for learning and endless positive regard - somewhat like our AP.

Today we introduced Jasper to Boris the wooden training horse.

Team AP have been so busy creating this wooden training horse and making sure it fits one of our existing saddles so that Connected Equine can use it to support riders in their journey.

It's been incredible to see it take shape and we all had a go (especially the adults!).

Really brilliant example of team work, practical maths and design.

Both horses and humans were excited to see the AP team back today!

Our brilliant young people gently brought the horses back into working with people whilst making time to 'horse around' themselves!

The horses were even treated to a mint and cleaver tea, two plants that are brilliant for aiding digestion.

A really great first day back.
