It looks like play, but it’s doing a lot more than that.
Parachute play is a highly effective way to support children’s development in a fun, collaborative, and structured way 🎈
As the parachute rises and falls, children are building gross motor skills, learning to work as a team, and developing problem-solving abilities.
It also supports communication and helps with sensory regulation, particularly modulation of force, or understanding how much effort is needed in different movements 💬
One simple way to build this skill is by using different weighted balls on the parachute ⚽🏐
Children have to adjust their movements depending on whether the ball is light or heavy, helping them practise grading their force while keeping the game going.
These kinds of activities can be adapted to meet individual needs, while keeping engagement high and therapeutic goals embedded within play.
