I’m Abbey. I have a diagnosis of AuDHD (that’s Autism + ADHD combined), which means i am extra spicy, so I know what it’s like when your brain doesn’t quite fit the ā€œstandard settingsā€! Like many counsellors, my path started from my own experience of struggling with mental health. When was diagnosed as neurodivergent at the age of 30, it felt like someone had finally handed me the manual to my ow

n head. It cracked me wide open, revealing years of guilt, shame, and those exhausting 'why am I like this?' moments. I’ve been through it all the tears, the years of masking just to fit in, and the slow process of unmasking and rebuilding myself time and time again. I don't just 'get it' from a textbook; I get it because I’ve lived it, and I know exactly how much courage it takes to start figuring out who you really are underneath it all." My journey has been messy, chaotic, beautiful, and at times, i felt completely overwhelmed. But here’s the plot twist: learning how my brain actually works changed everything. Having the right therapist back then helped me rebuild my sense of self, and that’s what inspired me to want to do the same for others. I am a bubbly, straight-talking, person-centred counsellor, passionate about helping people untangle life’s messy moments and reconnect with their true selves. Whether you’re neurodivergent, figuring things out, or just trying to make sense of a chaotic world we live in, you’ll find no judgment here, just empathy, compassion, and a dash of my Scouse humour. I offer a calm, supportive, confidential space where you can explore whatever’s going on for you: anxiety, depression, burnout, shame, guilt, grief, identity, or even that ā€œlostā€ feeling you can’t quite name. We’ll work at your pace, because therapy isn’t one size fits all it’s about finding what works for you. I’m big on building a relationship based on respect, honesty, and authenticity. That’s our foundation, and it’s what helps you feel comfortable opening up... and probably having a bit of a laugh along the way!"

Your grades are a snapshot of how you performed in one education system at one point in your life. They are not a prediction of what you’re capable of becoming.

I fu**ed up at school, I was told I needed to ā€œapply myself.ā€ I didn’t reach the potential everyone kept telling me I had, and there were teachers who made me feel and said I wouldn’t amount to much.

Turns out, I wasn’t stupid. I went on to university, achieved distinctions, built a career I fu***ng love and created my own business and, in a slightly petty full-circle moment, I probably earn more now than some of the teachers who thought I wouldn’t amount to anything šŸ˜‚

So celebrate the grades you’re proud of today. But if you didn’t get what you hoped for, please don’t mistake disappointing results for a disappointing future. There are so many different routes to where you want to go.

Sometimes the kid who ā€œdidn’t apply themselvesā€ just hasn’t found the environment where they can thrive yet. šŸ¤

One of the ways I work with neurodivergent clients is helping them separate NOW from NOT NOW.

Because sometimes something happens in the present but your nervous system reacts like it’s happened before or something is happening in the present and you can’t see how it will get better.

So suddenly you’re not just dealing with what’s happening now you’re carrying the past and the future at the same time.

The aim isn’t to tell yourself you’re being dramatic or irrational because that feeling is real. It’s about slowing things down enough to ask:

- What is actually happening right now?
- What does this remind me of from before?
- What is my brain predicting about the future?
- What do I know in this moment?

For a lot of neurodivergent clients, I find visual models like this can make something that feels chaotic in their head suddenly make a lot more sense. Therapy doesn’t always have to be sitting there asking, ā€œand how does that make you feel?ā€

Sometimes it’s drawing circles, arrows and cycles until we can finally go ā€œAhhh. THAT’S what my brain is doing.ā€ šŸ˜‚ Sometimes this moment isn’t just for the client, as a therapist sometimes I process my clients work with them by drawing how it makes sense to me.

Once we can understand the pattern, we can start meeting it with curiosity instead of shame.

I turned 32 šŸŽ‚

I think one of the biggest things I’ve learnt as I’ve got older is the more I’ve stopped trying to be who I thought I should be, the more I’ve actually started liking who I am.

I’ve realised that being liked isn’t the same as being known, and I’d rather be authentically me and not be everyone’s cup of tea than spend another year performing my own life.

Here’s to 32 šŸ™Œ to taking up space, being fu***ng weird, having boundaries and becoming more comfortable with the person I’ve always been.

I am currently out of the office on holiday and will be returning to work on Monday 24th August

As part of practising the same healthy boundaries and self-care that I encourage within therapy, I will be taking a complete break during this time and will not be monitoring or responding to emails or direct messages. I will reply to your message as soon as possible after my return ā˜ŗļø

Looking forward to posting some therapy content about ADHD medication abroad and the dopamine behaviours on holiday because let’s face it it feels like Monopoly money abroad šŸ˜‚

Things I've noticed since starting ADHD medication...

Medication has been one of the best decisions for me, but I am grateful that I spent some time learning what it meant for me and learning coping skills before deciding to take medication.

As I work with a lot of neurospicy clients I get asked a lot what my experiences are with medication so I thought I would do a post, this is my experience only and everyone’s will be different.

ADHD and Chronic Illnesses capacity blindness is when you genuinely don’t realise how little capacity you have until you’ve already said yes to everything and something anything 🤣

You make plans when you’re feeling good, so you assume you’ll feel the same tomorrow. Then tomorrow comes and suddenly replying to a text feels impossible.

The plans you were excited about feel overwhelming, the washing feels like a mountain and you can’t understand why yesterday’s version of you thought you could do it all.

It’s not that you don’t want to, but capacity has changed.

Learning to check in with your capacity, not just your intentions, can be a huge part of understanding your ADHD or Chronic health.

For anyone who spent years thinking they were too sensitive, too difficult, too awkward, too quiet or just "too much." Sometimes what we were told were personality flaws were actually signs of an autistic brain trying to navigate a world that didn't always make sense.

A diagnosis doesn't change who you are but it can give you the language to understand who you've always been.

Sometimes being a therapist the hardest part isn’t knowing what to say, it’s knowing not what to say šŸ˜‚
