There isn’t one single reason people choose to freeze their eggs, and that’s exactly why it’s worth talking about more openly. For some, it’s about buying time when they haven’t yet met the right partner or aren’t ready to start a family. For others, it’s a considered decision tied to career, education, or simply wanting more options later. And for some, it’s medical: undergoing treatment such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy, which can affect fertility, sometimes significantly.

That last point feels timely, since September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. If there’s time before cancer treatment starts, egg freezing can be worth discussing with both your oncology and fertility teams.
