Hope everyone has had a good half term!?

This week my 12 year old told me to put my money where my mouth is and get over my fear of heights and climb the O2 😬😬😩

This thought for me was terrifying and at my age it’s not something on my bucket list. I happily accepted long ago (after being rescued from a junior go ape) that my feet are best placed firmly on the ground!

However the problem I had was that for my mums 70th birthday she wanted to challenge herself and climb the O2 🤔. As her present I happily bought her and the rest of my family a ticket and I appointed myself chief photographer 📷

Unfortunately a few days before the climb my 12 year old offered to ‘NLP me’ as I had to climb for Nanna’s birthday 🤣🤣

Not quite the right terminology but I took his point. It didn’t seem quite right that I spend most of my time helping clients achieve things they didn’t think possible, so surely I needed to put all of my learnings into practise…..

So….it wasn’t pretty but I did it! 🙌🏻
My eyes were closed a reasonable amount of the time and I provided much entertainment for the rest of climbers 🙄 but the view was amazing!

So, what have I learnt? I guess that it’s never too late to overcome your fears and change your mindset. Oh and also that do the most amazing cocktails to help with a sprinkling of Dutch courage 😉

Is there anything you’ve given up hope of achieving? Maybe it’s worth revisiting?

It’s always mixed emotions when I finish seeing a client.

On one hand I’m delighted that they have reached their goals, on the other hand it’s such a privilege to walk next to them on their journey. Often they don’t see how in such a short space of time they can achieve such big change and when they reach their goal it means that they no longer need me and our journey is an end.

It’s like finishing a really good book with an amazing ending ☺️

⚽️ Really interesting article on Gareth Southgates approach to football.

Frequently we don’t challenge our filters on how and what information we take in from the outside world.

One of the ‘ground rules’ of NLP is ‘Respect for the other person’s model of the world’. It is suggested we adopt this theory no matter how divergent someone else’s thinking is from our own.

By adopting this principle we are much more likely to grow and learn.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Let’s hope Gareth’s approach takes us all the way 🏆

The England boss has turned to experts outside football to help prepare his team. Should we all take note?

In my first session with clients we look at the filters in our mind that process the information we take in. Our subconscious processes 11 million pieces of information per second. The problem is that our conscious mind can only process between 5-9 pieces of information in this time, so it is constantly using filters to decide what information makes the cut to be passed up.

To reduce the information down we put it through some super filters, one of which is ‘deletion’. Our subconscious automatically deletes most of the 11 million pieces of information we take in based on the habits we have taught it.

The problem lies in the fact that we often develop habits that don’t serve us. We delete information that makes us happy and we push up negative information to our conscious mind. The end result is that we can feel pretty rubbish.

My favourite example of this is a client who told me she’d had a terrible lesson at school. She couldn’t concentrate and hadn’t achieved anything and felt really miserable for the rest of the day. After we drilled down into the detail it turned out that she couldn’t concentrate for the first 10 minutes of the lesson but then pulled it back and got a 100% in a test. The problem was she deleted ALL of the good information from the last 40 minutes of the lesson and just focused on what went wrong. She was quite surprised when she realised what her mind had done automatically.

We’ve now worked on re-programming her deletion filter so that it is much more effective and guess what, she’s so much happier!!!

So, what good information have you deleted today and not pushed up to your conscious mind? It’s really important to get the balance right. We don’t want to delete all the negative stuff as we can learn from it but it’s SO important to properly recognise the good stuff.

Your challenge for the next week before you go to bed is to go through your day and find 5 pieces of positive information that you haven’t passed up to your conscious mind. You can also try this with your kids around the dinner table.

Enjoy your weekend! 😘

🙌🏻. And this is why I love working with kids - they just say it how it is!!

One thing we discussed in many of my sessions today is taking time to recognise the things we do well and our achievements, however small they may be. We’re all too good at just focusing on the bad stuff and not giving our wins enough air time. We all need to be our own number 1 cheer leader!! 📣

❓Can you bring to mind your 5 wins of the day?

👏👏👏 So super proud of my client who a week ago contacted me for help with her severe needle phobia. Since she was a child she has fainted after every injection or blood test. After 3 intense sessions this week she successfully received her COVID vaccine today. She felt slightly nervous but no other issues or fainting!!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

🤔 I have to say I was unsure if a week would be long enough to make such an amazing change but she did it!!

❓What fears would you like to overcome???
