The brain needs challenge. Not pressure… challenge. Something interesting to work out, something new to reach for.✨

In a Singing Mamas session, the learning is woven into the experience. You might be finding a harmony you’ve never sung before. You might be picking up a song in another language. You might be used to reading sheet music, and discovering that learning by ear is a completely different skill, one that uses different parts of your brain entirely.

This matters, especially in the early years of motherhood, when life can narrow in ways that are hard to name. Having something that genuinely stretches you (not in a stressful way, in a satisfying way) is one of the five things the NHS says we need for our wellbeing.

You won’t be out of your depth. But you’ll leave having learned something. Every time.

What’s a song that felt tricky at first but has become a favourite? We’d love to know in the comments 👇

Real stories from real mums. This is why Singing Mamas exists ✨

“As someone who is neurodivergent and suffered from postnatal depression, attending Singing Mamas has been amazing for my wellbeing. I wish I had attended sooner! Polly has created an inclusive space where I can just be myself and enjoy the power of music.”

- Group member, West Midlands | Leader: Polly (Birmingham)

Mindfulness has a bit of an image problem. It can feel like one more thing you’re supposed to be doing… another way to fail at being present.

But at its core, taking notice just means pausing. Checking in. Letting your attention rest somewhere intentional rather than spinning in every direction at once.

Singing does this almost automatically. When you’re learning the words to a new song, or holding a harmony, or just listening to the sound of many voices doing something together, your mind has to be there. It can’t easily be somewhere else.

Many of the songs we choose in Singing Mamas are also quietly reflective, giving you a moment to check in with how you actually are, without having to say it out loud to anyone.

You don’t have to know how to meditate. You don’t have to be still. You just have to sing.

Make sure you’re following us to see how this looks in practice across our groups every week.

We asked Lizzie why she joined Singing Mamas…

“I wanted to support people but in a different and more creative way and in a way that gave me more autonomy and flexibility to work around my family. I had a strong intuition this was for me!”

Real stories from real mums. This is why Singing Mamas exists ✨

This is what a Singing Mamas leader development day looks like ✨

Trainees coming together, learning songs, building harmonies one line at a time until something really special happens in the room.

The song is Hug in A Cup and watching it grow from a single line into a three part harmony is honestly one of our favourite things to witness 😍

This is how our leaders learn their craft. And this is what they go on to bring to their groups every single week. 🧡

It is such a treat getting out to visit other Singing Mamas groups and something I always look forward to. Different mamas, different babies, different venue, same heart and joy and connection.

And to see these groups now becoming a part of the fabric of a family hub is just incredible.

Thank you, Carol and Rhea, for the work you’ve done in your community for years, and for adding Singing Mamas to the list of offers open to local mums.

P.S. I have long been a collector of stories at Singing Mamas. Stories about mums who find connection in their loneliest moments, stories about the leaders who create that space to connect, stories about the ever - expanding world of creative health.

I’m looking forward to sharing more of these stories with you, here, over the coming weeks and months.

Come behind the scenes with us at our June song leader development day in Bristol.

Trainees building their practice, leaders refining theirs, everyone reconnecting to why we do this, plus a lot of singing and a truly sensational amount of cake.

Singing Mamas exists to place that mama and baby at the centre of the circle. To give her a community to join where she is supported, heard and looked after. We also have a lot of laughs and cake!

Curious about bringing this work to your community?

It's that time of year where we see a lot of social media activity raising awareness of the importance of maternal mental health, and that's good and welcome cos it's something that is so often overlooked by so many.

But for Singing Mamas, it's not just a preoccupation for one week of the year. Our mission is to make sure mums feel supported, feel connected, feel resilient, feel empowered, every. single. day. of the year.

Scientific research has shown that singing in a group is exceptionally beneficial for maternal mental health, and that those benefits are long lasting.

You do not have to be.a good singer. You do not have to audition. You will never have to sing on your own. It's low pressure and friendly; we sing to feel better not to sound good (though it does always sound good, trust me!)

There are groups all over the UK and beyond; click the link below for details on my Thursday group at and others in South London/nationally.

We look forward to welcoming you 🧡

Was just so great to see Singing Mamas on BBC Morning Live today. Shay really nailed why trying out a group might turn out the best thing you do all maternity leave - it certainly proved to be that way for me 🧡
