🍷☀️ An Impromptu Afternoon to Remember! ☀️🍷

Sometimes the best memories are the ones you don't plan... and today was exactly that!

Shortly after lunch, our GM had a brilliant idea – why not treat some of our wonderful residents to a glass of wine in the beautiful gardens of The Spaniards Inn on Hampstead Heath? 🚐🍷

The sunshine was shining, the glasses were poured, and before long the stories started flowing just as freely as the wine!

Eve and Ron had everyone smiling as they reminisced about their student days, sharing tales of nights spent in pubs and clubs, dancing, laughing and making memories that have clearly stood the test of time. 💃🕺

Doreen also delighted us with stories from earlier years, speaking so fondly about her career and the work she loved. It was wonderful to hear about the experiences that helped shape such an incredible life.

There was so much laughter, conversation and genuine joy around the table. Days like today remind us that life enrichment isn't about grand plans – it's about creating meaningful moments, sharing stories, enjoying each other's company and making new memories together. ❤️

Safe to say, this won't be our last spontaneous adventure! Although on our next outing, our designated driver (our very own Wayne Harry Hughes😅) has promised to avoid those pesky width restrictions when driving the minibus... breathe in everyone! 😂🚐

Here's to many more afternoons filled with friendship, fresh air, laughter and perhaps the occasional well-deserved glass of wine! 🥂💚

There are some visits that truly brighten everyone's day, and yesterday was one of them! 🐩❤️

We were delighted to welcome Polly and Peggy, the wonderful Poodles from Performing Pets, for a very special pet therapy visit.
The smiles, laughter, cuddles, and wagging tails filled the room with happiness. It was heart warming to see our residents enjoying such meaningful interactions, sharing gentle strokes, conversations, and plenty of affection with these beautiful dogs.

Pet therapy offers so much more than just a lovely visit. It brings comfort, reduces feelings of loneliness, encourages conversation, sparks treasured memories, and creates moments of genuine connection and joy. The positive impact on our residents' wellbeing is always incredible to witness.

A huge thank you to Polly, Peggy, and the amazing Performing Pets Poodles for bringing so much love, laughter, and happiness into our home. We can't wait to welcome you back again soon! 💕🐾

We are delighted to welcome Stephen Hughes our new Head of Maintenance at Magnolia Court Care Home.

"I've always had a passion for maintenance and practical work. From a very young age, my Godfather introduced me to a variety of trades and taught me how to use different tools safely and confidently. Some of my earliest memories include building a table when I was just five years old, making a walking stick for my grandad, and helping with painting and decorating projects. Those experiences gave me a real sense of pride and sparked a lifelong passion for creating, repairing and maintaining things.

After leaving school, I initially enrolled on a Media Design course at college. It didn't take long for me to realise that my strengths lay in practical, hands-on work rather than a classroom environment. I made the decision to leave college and began my career with Barchester Healthcare as a Bank General Assistant at Brook House Nursing Home.

Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Barchester Healthcare recognised my enthusiasm and potential from the beginning, giving me opportunities to support maintenance teams across London before I secured a permanent role as a Maintenance Assistant at Bushey House Beaumont Care Home.

Throughout my career, Barchester has continued to invest in my development. I've been fortunate to receive excellent mentoring from experienced Heads of Maintenance and senior colleagues, who have helped me build my knowledge of statutory compliance, health and safety, planned preventative maintenance and leadership.

I have now developed and progressed to the role of Head of Maintenance in Magnolia Court Care Home. I'm incredibly proud of the journey I've taken with Barchester. My pr
ogression demonstrates the organisation's commitment to developing people from within, providing ongoing training, mentoring and opportunities for career advancement. I genuinely believe that if you're willing to work hard, show commitment and embrace learning, Barchester will support you in achieving your career goals.

As Head of Maintenance at Magnolia Court, my priority is to ensure our residents enjoy a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment that truly feels like home. I take great pride in maintaining high standards across the home and enjoy working closely with colleagues to continually improve the environment for everyone who lives and works here."

There's nothing quite like a game of Giant Scrabble to bring everyone together!

We took our giant Scrabble board out into the garden, where residents, relatives and visitors enjoyed a fun afternoon testing their word skills, sharing plenty of laughter and a little friendly competition. As well as being great fun, Scrabble is a fantastic way to keep the brain active and stimulate conversation.

Our beautiful enclosed garden provided the perfect setting, with sunny and shaded spots for everyone to relax and enjoy the afternoon. With raised flower beds for residents who enjoy gardening and plenty of space to spend time with loved ones, it's a wonderful place to make the most of the summer.

It was lovely to see so many people joining in and enjoying such a simple activity together.

Our gardening group continues to grow, and this week even more of our residents enjoyed a wonderful morning at Basing Hill Community Garden.

Everyone got involved with watering, weeding and caring for the vegetables, taking great pride in seeing how the garden is flourishing.

These weekly visits are a fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors, stay active and spend time with others in the local community. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Yesterday we were delighted to host our very first 'Coffee with a Copper' session at Magnolia Court Care Home.

It was a pleasure to welcome three PCSOs and two Constables from the Child's Hill Metropolitan Police Service, who joined our residents for coffee and conversation about community safety and local issues.

Our residents really enjoyed the visit, and opportunities like these help build valuable community connections while providing reassurance and keeping everyone informed.

Coffee with a Copper is open to our local community too, so if you'd like to join us at a future session, we'd love to welcome you. Thank you to the Child's Hill Metropolitan Police team – we look forward to seeing you again soon.

👰 Resident Celebrates Granddaughter’s Wedding Blessing 🤵

The team at Derham House Care Home in were delighted to help one of their much-loved residents, June, enjoy a very special day when she attended her granddaughter’s wedding blessing at St Helen & St Giles Church in Rainham, surrounded by family and friends.

June was delighted to witness such an important milestone in her granddaughter’s life and to share in the joy of the occasion.
Following the service, the celebrations continued back at Derham House, where family and friends gathered for a reception.

June, who recently turned 89, commented: “I have had such a marvellous day, my granddaughter, Keeley, looks absolutely beautiful, I am over the moon for her and Daniel, they are such a gorgeous couple. It has been fantastic to celebrate with them and have all my family together.”

What an unforgettable day for all involved! 👏

⛳️🤸‍♀️ Get Ready to Get Barchester Moving ⛳️🤸‍♀️

From 6th to 12th July, residents, patients, families, friends and colleagues across the country will be getting active as part of Get Barchester Moving Week 2026 – a fun-filled week of movement and fundraising in support of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

There’ll be something for everyone – from gentle exercises and dance sessions to sponsored walks, live entertainment and more – all designed to put the ‘fun’ into fundraising while promoting movement and wellbeing.

The Foundation helps older people and those living with disabilities stay connected to their local communities.

⭐ Waterside Court Donates £1,000 to Cycling Charity ⭐

Waterside Court Care Home in recently presented Cycling Without Age with a cheque for £1,000 to support their wonderful contribution in enriching the lives of care home residents and the wider Wallingford community.

Cycling Without Age in Wallingford offers free trishaw rides to residents of care homes and day centres and for elderly local residents, helping to combat loneliness and social isolation.

The grant has been awarded on behalf of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

Mike Heath MBE, Operations Manager, said, “The donation is very much welcomed and appreciated and will be a huge help in continuing our contribution to the wellbeing and enjoyment of Wallingford residents.”

Heather, a resident at the home, shared, “Going through Wallingford Town Centre and waving out to people I know, makes my day. We feel very much part of the community.” 👏

🎉 Hafan Y Coed Celebrates Excellent CIW Ratings 🎉

Hafan Y Coed Care Home in passed a recent Care Inspectorate Wales inspection with ‘Excellent’ ratings - the best possible ratings – across the board, after being praised for operating a safe, well-maintained, caring and well-led service.

The report stated that there was a strong sense of community and teamwork in the home nurtured by a very well-respected management team who promote choice, independence and positive wellbeing outcomes for their residents.

A relative commented: “They go over and above what’s required. It’s the thoughtful little things, you don’t need to ask, they just do it.”

Our COO, Natasha Lazovic, visited Hafan Y Coed to congratulate the team on the home’s Excellent ratings and award every member of staff a £500 voucher to celebrate their achievement. She shared: “Hafan Y Coed is a fantastic home delivering exceptional care to its residents, I couldn’t be prouder of General Manager, Sarah, and every single member of staff here. I am delighted to be here today to congratulate everyone personally, meet the residents and chat to the team about their wonderful work.”

⭐ Elgar Court Wins Prestigious Award ⭐

We’re happy to share that Elgar Court Care Home in has scooped the Best Residential Care Home Award for 2026 in Worcestershire. The home has been chosen out of a number of care homes across Worcestershire.

Elgar Court is a luxury residential care home and opened in July 2023. The care home offers bespoke person-centred residential and dementia care, and is set against the beautiful backdrop of the Malvern Hills – the town which was voted in 2026 as the best place to live in the Midlands.

🚴‍♀️ Tour de Barchester 2026 Highlights 🚴‍♂️

We’ve created a lovely video showcasing some of the highlights from this year’s Tour de Barchester – a gruelling 200-mile cycling challenge.

Thanks to the incredible support of our colleagues, care homes, sponsors and suppliers, we raised over £64,000 for Barchester's Charitable Foundation, which supports older people and other adults living with a disability or a mental health condition by helping them to connect or re-connect with others in their local communities.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and supported the event. Your energy, generosity and determination made all the difference.

🎉 Elderwood House is Now Complete 🎉

We’re thrilled to share that the Mayor of Swanley, Councillor Michael Horwood, has celebrated the completion of our new luxury care home in , Elderwood House, in front of invited guests from the local community.

Our CEO, Dr Pete Calveley, and General Manager, Liza Burchell, hosted the event and invited guests to view the stunning new 62-bed care home.

The home has been designed with residents’ comfort in mind and the team at Elderwood House will offer residential support, respite stays and dementia care, all delivered by a dedicated and passionate team of trained professionals.
