A Fantastic Open Day at Magnolia Court

On Saturday, we opened our doors at Magnolia Court for a very special community Open Day, bringing together a fantastic group of local professionals all under one roof.

We were delighted to welcome Rabeya Islam, St. James’s Place Wealth Management and SOLLA Adviser; Jeyda Korusoy, Prevention and Wellbeing Coordinator at the London Borough of Barnet; Finley Penn-Lecoyte from Curwens Solicitors; Sarah Davis, Team Leader for the Dementia Advice Service at Age UK Barnet; Salima Jiwa, Scams Prevention at Age UK Barnet; and our local Metropolitan Police PCSOs.

Our visitors were able to chat informally with each of them, ask questions and find out more about the advice and support available locally. It was also lovely to see our community professionals getting to know one another and making new connections.

We had a great turnout, with several people taking the opportunity to look around our home, while others from the local community popped in specifically to meet our guests.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day such a success. We love being able to bring our community together at Magnolia Court.

A huge congratulations to Champa Dinamuni our General Assistant, for being our Employee of the Month for August! 🎉👏

Champa has truly gone above and beyond in her role, always stepping up and helping wherever she is needed. From supporting the team as a chef in the kitchen, taking on hostess duties, and getting involved in our activities, Champa is always willing to lend a hand and give her very best.

Every day, Champa demonstrates our Barchester values through her passion, dedication and commitment to those around her. She consistently puts others first, supports our residents and her colleagues, and helps create a positive and welcoming environment for everyone. 💛

Yesterday, Magnolia Court Care Home - Barchester Healthcare was absolutely chirping with excitement as we welcomed a very special visit from Performing Pets! 🐦❤️

Our guests of the feathered variety included some gorgeous budgies and cockatiels, and what a delightful bunch they were! Not only were they incredibly tame, but they were more than happy to make themselves at home with our guests — perching on shoulders, gently nibbling ears (apparently, ears are a delicacy! 😂) and showering everyone they met with an amazing amount of love and affection.

There were smiles all around as our residents enjoyed cuddles, companionship and plenty of those lovely little moments that make a day truly special. 🥰

And then there was our GM, who, despite technically being supposed to be working, simply could not resist getting involved… or should we say, getting into character! 🏴‍☠️😂

With a little help from our feathered friends, he decided it was the perfect opportunity to unleash his inner Long John Silver. We’re not entirely sure whether he was looking for treasure or simply trying to avoid his to-do list, but “Arrr!” was definitely heard around Magnolia Court!

A huge thank you to Performing Pets for bringing so much joy, laughter, feathers and love through our doors. Yesterday was a wonderful reminder that sometimes the smallest visitors can make the biggest impact. ❤️🐦

With the fifth heatwave in full flow, our activities team decided some gentle word games in the cool of our garden lounge, away from the hot sun, were just what was needed!

Our Giant Scrabble was played a little differently this time. Rather than competing against each other, residents worked together to see how many words they could create from the letters available.

It was a simple but thoroughly enjoyable activity that encouraged everyone to think, chat and help one another – with plenty of suggestions being called out along the way!

A lovely afternoon of teamwork and gentle brain stimulation at Magnolia Court Care Home.

🍎 From Our Garden to Our Kitchen at Magnolia Court 🍎

We’re very lucky at Magnolia Court Care Home to have a beautiful secluded garden, complete with a couple of apple trees and a Conference pear tree.

This week, some of our apples had fallen from the tree, so Eve headed out into the garden to gather them up. Rather than letting them go to waste, she collected them for our kitchen team to use in their cooking - pork with apple casserole!

There’s something lovely about being able to pick fruit grown right here in our own garden and make good use of it in the home. Now we’re looking forward to seeing what our chefs decide to make with Eve’s harvest!

We couldn't be prouder of Stephen Hughes, who has been named Apprentice of the Year for the South East Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2026 — and has now secured his place in the National Finals in October! 🎉👏

With almost 6,000 nominations across Barchester, this is an incredible achievement!

Stephen has worked incredibly hard throughout his apprenticeship, growing in confidence, developing his skills and always going the extra mile for our residents and colleagues. ❤️

Our residents know Stephen as kind, caring and approachable, and we have loved watching his journey and seeing him flourish as part of the Magnolia Court family.

👰 Resident Celebrates Granddaughter’s Wedding Blessing 🤵

The team at Derham House Care Home in were delighted to help one of their much-loved residents, June, enjoy a very special day when she attended her granddaughter’s wedding blessing at St Helen & St Giles Church in Rainham, surrounded by family and friends.

June was delighted to witness such an important milestone in her granddaughter’s life and to share in the joy of the occasion.
Following the service, the celebrations continued back at Derham House, where family and friends gathered for a reception.

June, who recently turned 89, commented: “I have had such a marvellous day, my granddaughter, Keeley, looks absolutely beautiful, I am over the moon for her and Daniel, they are such a gorgeous couple. It has been fantastic to celebrate with them and have all my family together.”

What an unforgettable day for all involved! 👏

⛳️🤸‍♀️ Get Ready to Get Barchester Moving ⛳️🤸‍♀️

From 6th to 12th July, residents, patients, families, friends and colleagues across the country will be getting active as part of Get Barchester Moving Week 2026 – a fun-filled week of movement and fundraising in support of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

There’ll be something for everyone – from gentle exercises and dance sessions to sponsored walks, live entertainment and more – all designed to put the ‘fun’ into fundraising while promoting movement and wellbeing.

The Foundation helps older people and those living with disabilities stay connected to their local communities.

Let’s get moving and make a difference together.

⭐ Waterside Court Donates £1,000 to Cycling Charity ⭐

Waterside Court Care Home in recently presented Cycling Without Age with a cheque for £1,000 to support their wonderful contribution in enriching the lives of care home residents and the wider Wallingford community.

Cycling Without Age in Wallingford offers free trishaw rides to residents of care homes and day centres and for elderly local residents, helping to combat loneliness and social isolation.

The grant has been awarded on behalf of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

Mike Heath MBE, Operations Manager, said, “The donation is very much welcomed and appreciated and will be a huge help in continuing our contribution to the wellbeing and enjoyment of Wallingford residents.”

Heather, a resident at the home, shared, “Going through Wallingford Town Centre and waving out to people I know, makes my day. We feel very much part of the community.” 👏

🎉 Hafan Y Coed Celebrates Excellent CIW Ratings 🎉

Hafan Y Coed Care Home in passed a recent Care Inspectorate Wales inspection with ‘Excellent’ ratings - the best possible ratings – across the board, after being praised for operating a safe, well-maintained, caring and well-led service.

The report stated that there was a strong sense of community and teamwork in the home nurtured by a very well-respected management team who promote choice, independence and positive wellbeing outcomes for their residents.

A relative commented: “They go over and above what’s required. It’s the thoughtful little things, you don’t need to ask, they just do it.”

Our COO, Natasha Lazovic, visited Hafan Y Coed to congratulate the team on the home’s Excellent ratings and award every member of staff a £500 voucher to celebrate their achievement. She shared: “Hafan Y Coed is a fantastic home delivering exceptional care to its residents, I couldn’t be prouder of General Manager, Sarah, and every single member of staff here. I am delighted to be here today to congratulate everyone personally, meet the residents and chat to the team about their wonderful work.”

⭐ Elgar Court Wins Prestigious Award ⭐

We’re happy to share that Elgar Court Care Home in has scooped the Best Residential Care Home Award for 2026 in Worcestershire. The home has been chosen out of a number of care homes across Worcestershire.

Elgar Court is a luxury residential care home and opened in July 2023. The care home offers bespoke person-centred residential and dementia care, and is set against the beautiful backdrop of the Malvern Hills – the town which was voted in 2026 as the best place to live in the Midlands.

🚴‍♀️ Tour de Barchester 2026 Highlights 🚴‍♂️

We’ve created a lovely video showcasing some of the highlights from this year’s Tour de Barchester – a gruelling 200-mile cycling challenge.

Thanks to the incredible support of our colleagues, care homes, sponsors and suppliers, we raised over £64,000 for Barchester's Charitable Foundation, which supports older people and other adults living with a disability or a mental health condition by helping them to connect or re-connect with others in their local communities.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and supported the event. Your energy, generosity and determination made all the difference.

🎉 Elderwood House is Now Complete 🎉

We’re thrilled to share that the Mayor of Swanley, Councillor Michael Horwood, has celebrated the completion of our new luxury care home in , Elderwood House, in front of invited guests from the local community.

Our CEO, Dr Pete Calveley, and General Manager, Liza Burchell, hosted the event and invited guests to view the stunning new 62-bed care home.

The home has been designed with residents’ comfort in mind and the team at Elderwood House will offer residential support, respite stays and dementia care, all delivered by a dedicated and passionate team of trained professionals.
