Ever wondered why you can feel completely satisfied after dinner, but still want something sweet? 🍰

This is known as taste specific satiety.

Our appetite can change depending on the taste, texture and variety of food in front of us. You might feel full after a savoury meal, but suddenly find yourself interested in something sweet.

It’s thought that our preference for variety may have developed as a way of encouraging us to eat a wider range of foods.

So that post-dinner craving for something sweet? It may be more complex than simply having a sweet tooth.

If water tastes boring lately, it might not be the water… 💧

If you’re constantly reaching for sugary or highly flavoured drinks, your brain’s reward pathways can make plain water feel less appealing.

Have you noticed yourself drinking less water because it just feels “boring”? Let us know in the comments 👇

Do you ever feel like you just can’t stop eating certain foods? 🍟

It’s not always about willpower.

Many ultra-processed foods are designed to activate your brain’s reward pathways, making it harder to stop once you’ve started. Even foods marketed as “healthy” can still trigger the same cycle of craving more.

Have you ever found yourself finishing a whole bag without meaning to? Tell us in the comments 👇

Erycka’s weight loss journey 👇

Today, we reviewed Erycka’s continuous glucose monitor (CGM) data and uncovered episodes of low blood sugar throughout the day.

While her protein intake was strong, her glucose readings showed that increasing fibre and healthy fats could help create more stable energy levels and better blood sugar balance.

As Erycka shared, understanding not only what to eat, but when and how to eat, has given her a much clearer picture of how to support her health while juggling a busy lifestyle.

Have you ever tracked your blood glucose levels? What surprised you most? Comment below 👇

Struggling to lose weight in perimenopause? You’re not imagining it…

As oestrogen begins to fluctuate, your body becomes more likely to store fat (particularly around the abdomen), your insulin sensitivity can decline, and your metabolism may shift. Add stress, poor sleep, and a busy lifestyle into the mix, and suddenly what used to work… doesn’t anymore.

👉 You’re eating well
👉 You’re staying active
👉 Yet the weight isn’t shifting

At Baldo & Mason, we go deeper than generic plans.

We focus on metabolic health, gut health, GLP-1s and personalised nutrition strategies to support your body through this transition.

Want to lose belly fat without extreme dieting? Here’s what I’d focus on…

As a nutritionist, there are certain foods I’d reduce (not completely cut out) if my goal was to support fat loss; especially around the middle.

But let’s be clear… this isn’t about being restrictive.

Belly fat, particularly in midlife, is closely linked to hormones, insulin sensitivity, and stress levels. So the goal isn’t to eliminate foods, it’s to support your body so it can function optimally.

During perimenopause, oestrogen starts to fluctuate and gradually decline. This can increase fat storage around the abdomen, reduce insulin sensitivity, and make your body more prone to holding onto weight — especially when stress (and cortisol) is high.

Here are 5 things I’d be mindful of:

👉 Refined sugars (spike blood sugar and insulin)
👉 Ultra-processed snacks (low in nutrients, easy to overconsume)
👉 Alcohol (impacts liver function and fat metabolism)
👉 Sugary drinks (liquid calories with little satiety)
👉 Highly refined carbs (like white bread and pastries)

This doesn’t mean “never”; it means being intentional.

When you stabilise blood sugar, support your hormones, and nourish your body properly, fat loss becomes a lot more sustainable (and a lot less frustrating).

Which of these do you think impacts you the most? Comment below!
