World Cup matches, a heatwave and a few drinks? ⚽☀️🍺

Many people will be making the most of the sunshine while watching the World Cup with friends and family. But if you're enjoying a few drinks, it's worth remembering that alcohol can stay in your system much longer than many people realise.

Combined with hot weather and later nights, drinking can increase your risk of dehydration, poor sleep and feeling worse the next day.

If you're watching the football this week:

💧 Alternate alcoholic drinks with water
🍽️ Eat before and during the match
😴 Get plenty of rest where possible
🚗 Don't assume you'll be fit to drive the next morning – only time clears alcohol from your system.

Could weight-loss injections like Mounjaro actually help people drink less?

New research is showing that GLP-1 medications (like Mounjaro) may reduce alcohol cravings and even lower how much people drink.

But it’s not a “quick fix”.

These medications aren’t approved for treating alcohol addiction, and recovery still requires the right support, guidance, and care.

If you or someone you know is struggling with alcohol, you’re not alone.

Mental Health Act reforms are now law. 📣

The changes aim to improve dignity, choice and fairness in mental health crisis care, while addressing long-standing inequalities.

For people affected by addiction, this matters. Mental health challenges and substance use often overlap, yet support can be fragmented or hard to access.

This is an important step forward. Real change will depend on sustained investment in mental health and addiction services, including prevention, dual-diagnosis care and community-based support.
