Congratulations on your promotion, Marlene! 🥳😍🎉

We recently surprised Marlene, our former Deputy Manager, with a special celebration to mark her well-deserved promotion to Home Manager.

There was fizz, cake, flowers, a few happy tears, and plenty of smiles as we came together to recognise this incredible achievement. 🌸🍰🥂

Marlene has been part of the Ryelands family for 17 years, and we couldn’t be prouder of everything she has accomplished. Congratulations Marlene, we wish you every success in your new role! 👏🏽👏🏽

As part of Dementia Action Week, we’re looking at the importance of connection and community.

Living with dementia doesn’t mean facing it alone.

Dementia cafés, support groups and community events offer a safe and welcoming space for people living with dementia and their families to connect, share experiences and find support.

Care homes also play an important role, providing not just care and support, but a sense of community, routine and belonging.

If you or someone you know is affected by dementia, reaching out can make a real difference. You can find more information at https://mha.org.uk/care-support/types-care-support/dementia-care

As part of Dementia Action Week, we’re highlighting simple ways to support someone living with dementia.

Supporting someone with dementia isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about patience, understanding and compassion. Here are a few simple ways to help:

Enter their world - If they’re confused, try not to correct or argue. Instead, respond to how they feel in that moment.

Listen beyond words - body language, tone and emotion often say more than words ever could.

Use simple, calm communication - Short sentences and a gentle tone can make conversations easier and less overwhelming.

Be patient — What may seem small to us can feel very real and important to them.

Dementia affects not just memory, but how a person experiences the world. A little understanding can make a big difference.

Share this with someone who may find it helpful.

As part of Dementia Action Week, we’re sharing a real family’s experience.

Gary and Julie share their journey of recognising the early signs of dementia in their mum, Irene and how they navigated the difficult decisions around her care.

Watch to hear their story, the challenges they faced and the lessons they learned along the way.
