Emergency Services Day falls on the 9th September each year, chosen because the date echoes the number: the ninth day of the ninth month, marking 999.

It's a day to recognise everyone who answers that call, and everyone who turns up because of it: paramedics, firefighters, police officers and NHS staff working across Wimbledon and beyond.

Senior Citizens Day gives us a reason to do something we don't always make time for, which is sitting with an older person and properly listening. Their stories, their opinions, the things they'd do differently and the things they wouldn't change at all.

Our CareAngels get to do this every day, and it's one of the real privileges of the job. Today we're celebrating the humour, wisdom and resilience of the older people we support, and encouraging everyone to make a bit of time for the older people in their own lives too.
