Across Abbey Healthcare, our homes are coming together to support Macmillan Cancer Support, with residents, families, team members and local communities enjoying coffee, cake and plenty of good company - all for a wonderful cause.

Our homes have been getting creative with their celebrations!

Barleycroft Care Home is hosting a special Coffee Morning & Book Swap, inviting everyone to bring along pre-loved books, find a new read and make a donation to Macmillan.

Manor Farm has already enjoyed a fantastic Macmillan Coffee Morning, bringing together residents, team members, the local Fire Brigade, local priest and Support Office colleagues.

Homes have also been getting into the Macmillan spirit with bunting, balloons, awareness ribbons and beautiful resident-made crafts in Macmillan’s green and purple colours.

Wrottesley Park House hosted a joint Macmillan and Alzheimer’s Coffee Morning, with an amazing selection of homemade cakes, themed activities, music and a special live performance from Darcie Edwards. Residents, families, visitors, healthcare professionals and team members all came together to enjoy the day.

Abbey Lodge is bringing residents and families together with live entertainment, cakes and refreshments.

Kendal Care Home has raised an amazing £120 so far through its Macmillan Coffee Morning. Residents, team members and members of the local community came together to enjoy homemade cakes, coffee and great company. Everyone had a wonderful time while supporting such an important cause.

Aaron Court is also bringing residents and the local community together for a special Macmillan Coffee Morning.

Farnworth Care Home had a fantastic Coffee Morning and raised an amazing £165 for Macmillan Cancer Support. The home organised a raffle and sold delicious cakes and green bracelets, with residents, colleagues and the community getting involved to support this wonderful cause.

It’s wonderful to see so many of our homes embracing the occasion in their own special way while coming together for the same important cause.

A huge thank you to our residents, families, colleagues, visitors and local communities for getting involved and helping us support Macmillan Cancer Support.

We're delighted to celebrate Kendal Care Home and Abbeydale Court Care Home, who are being recognised today with their Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Accreditation.

As part of the Annual GSF Conference, the homes were awarded their plaques in recognition of their hard work and commitment to delivering the best end-of-life care. The GSF covers all aspects of health and social care, from care homes to hospitals.

Kendal Care Home secured their accreditation with a perfect 100%, which is very rarely achieved. This was highlighted when the team collected their plaque.

Abbeydale Court joins an elite group of five homes across Scotland to achieve the accreditation.

Aarandale Manor welcomed Barnet Councils, Activity Provider Forum to their home, leading with an insightful talk by Dr Catherine Loveday. The forum gives an opportunity for Activity providers based in homes in Barnet to come together, share ideas and best practice facilitated by members of the team from Barnet Council.

Dr Loveday during her presentation shared her unique viewpoint as a lecturer and teaching fellow on the BSc Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience and BSc Psychology programmes at Westminster University but also of a daughter supporting her mother who is living well with dementia. Her presentation gave some great hints and tips in how to support people living with dementia, with a focus on music, memories, and independence.

Following Dr Lovedays presentation, over an afternoon tea prepared by the inhouse catering team, the Activity team at Aarandale Manor hosted an open forum sharing the wide variety of activities that are held within the home and the reasons behind each one. What really shone through was the passion that each any every person has for enriching peoples lives within their care. This forum is held on a quarterly basis and tours the care homes in the area, encouraging collaborative working across providers.

Dr Loveday hosts a light hearted yet insightful podcast - Mempathy sharing her professional and personal experience, tackling important topics and offering concrete advice and solutions for those caring for people who are living with dementia. You can find more information about the podcasts below

This is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful recognition of the dedication, compassion, and hard work Geethu demonstrated every day at Kendal Care Home.

💙 Today is UK Emergency Services Day, and we want to take a moment to recognise and thank the incredible people who keep our communities safe.

From firefighters and paramedics to police officers and everyone working behind the scenes, your courage, compassion and commitment make a real difference every single day.

We're especially proud to look back on a visit from our local Fire Brigade to Manor Farm Care Home, where our residents met some of the amazing people behind the uniform, learned more about their work and enjoyed a wonderful day together. 🚒

To everyone across the UK emergency services: thank you for everything you do to protect, support and care for our communities and our residents.

Hellos and Highlights: Abbeydale Court

This week's Highlight: Caroline Roberts, Kelly Howell and Mark S. spending time at Abbeydale Court with Home Manager Grace Sloane and her brilliant team.

Being in the homes isn't an occasional visit for our senior leadership team; it's how we do things. We can't truly support our residents and colleagues from behind a desk, so getting to know the homes, the residents, and the team’s first hand is simply part of the job.

More homes, more faces, more highlights to come.

The Next Chapter: Written Together

New ownership. New faces. One shared purpose.

Last month, our Home Managers gathered for our first workshop since the acquisition to meet the newest additions to our senior leadership team. Caroline Roberts, our new CEO, shared her vision for Abbey Healthcare and left us in no doubt about one thing above all: we never compromise on care.

Beyond that, it was about getting to know each other properly, including our personal communication styles. Taking real stock of what's already going right across our homes. And working through the priorities ahead. There was even a team challenge that looked simple enough on paper and turned out to be anything but.

We left with something rare after a big change: a feeling of genuine optimism for what's next. The next chapter of Abbey Healthcare isn't being written for us. It's being written together.
