BOARD GAME TIME 🎲

Southborough was transformed into a board game haven today, as residents, team members and families came together to enjoy some friendly competition and connect over a range of simple tabletop games.

There were plenty of smiles and laughter, with the tumbling tower proving a particular favourite, alongside the ever-popular noughts and crosses!

It’s amazing how simple games can bring people together, spark conversations and create moments of joy. The sensory aspect of throwing a dice and the brain exercise of finding your place make this activity a positive experience!

We’d love to welcome more members and children from our community to join us throughout this month for more fun-filled afternoons of games, laughter and connection to celebrate this Care UK initiative! 🎲😊

Southborough was transformed into a board game haven today, as residents, team members and families came together to enjoy some friendly competition and connect over a range of simple tabletop games.

Some people see an opportunity and run with it. Shobha Lakshminarayan did exactly that.

Since introducing Adopt a Grandparent at Southborough care home, Care UK, Shobha has become a brilliant advocate for the programme and the friendships it can create.

She quickly saw the difference regular one-to-one conversations could make for residents and has gone on to share those connections with others, both through social media and by taking part in AAG videos encouraging more care homes to get involved.

That enthusiasm has helped our work travel far beyond Southborough.

We were delighted to recognise Shobha as our Wellbeing Activity Co-ordinator of the Year.

It was lovely to be part of the Adopt a Grandparent awards event and to celebrate the wonderful work the charity is doing to tackle loneliness and create meaningful connections for care home residents. 💙

After the event, I was eagerly looking forward to sharing the happy news with Ruth, a Southborough resident who is such an ardent fan of her weekly AAG calls . She has a special connection with Emily, a wonderful volunteer who takes the time to get to know Ruth and share stories!

Ruth was overjoyed to see the award, congratulating me happily and shared how lovely it is to be able to talk to Emily through Adopt a Grandparent. These regular conversations and connections mean so much and are a beautiful reminder of how a little time and companionship can make such a difference.

Hoping more and more care home residents can take advantage of this free and secure service!

I’m so grateful to be part of this journey with David and the team, and especially thankful to the Southborough team and Kamal for their support in making these meaningful connections possible. 💜

🏀 A fun morning of movement at Southborough! 🎶

The basketball game certainly got everyone alert, with residents getting up, picking up the ball and having a go at throwing it at the basket trying to score. With music playing and plenty of encouragement, it created such a fun and lively atmosphere! 🙌

It was especially lovely to see Dharan and Derek getting competitive and really enjoying the activity.

💜💚 A Wonderful Afternoon of Community, Food & Fundraising 💚💜

What a lovely afternoon at Southborough, as families and residents came together for a special Relatives Meet, followed by a wonderful Winter Tasting Menu in support of Macmillan Cancer Support Macmillan Cancer Support

Our kitchen team, led by Chef Libu, prepared a delightful spread of seasonal dishes from comforting soups and hearty winter favourites to tempting puddings. 🍲❄️🍰

Families and residents thoroughly enjoyed the menu, with lots of high praise for the kitchen team. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the food, sharing conversations and making memories together. Our residents are already looking forward to seeing more of these delicious dishes in the coming months!

We are so grateful to our wonderful community for coming together for such a special occasion and helping to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. 💚

Thank you to everyone who contributed, supported and made the afternoon so special.
