Pilates is having a moment, you've probably noticed.
New studios opening everywhere, debates about which style is 'best', classes being offered in places that didn't exist six months ago, and it's brilliant that more people are finding their way to the reformer and learning about the method.
But in the middle of all that noise, we wanted to remind you what we've always stood for and what we'll never budge on:
1) Our teachers are all properly qualified. They've completed accredited courses, completed their practice hours and understand how to work with individual bodies. Bodies with injuries, post-surgical bodies, bodies that haven't exercised in years, bodies managing chronic pain. They didn't just learn the movements; they learned how to teach them safely to everyone.
2) Our classes stay small, just five people. That way, we know your health history, we know your unique aches and pains, your dog's name and where you went on your last trip. We can also then modify the classes for the people booked in; we can offer alternatives to the clients with shoulder pain or those who can't do that one movement. That's not possible in a room of twenty.
3) We're building a community, not just taking bookings. The community that has grown inside this studio is one of our favourite things about it. People who care for each other, who notice when someone hasn't been in for a while, who've become friends over a shared love of Pilates and the occasional groan on the long box. We check in on our clients. We remember what you're working through or what goals you have.
So with all the noise in the industry, remember, we are going to continue to do what we do best and create a community that is welcoming for all.
